6.30 Kempton – SILVER SAMURAI (1pt ew – 9/1 William Hill)
SILVER SAMURAI has yet to score from eight starts on the all-weather but has made the frame in all of them and the last time he ran over 7f at Kempton he was beaten by just a short head into second place. Marco Botti’s seven-year-old, scratched from an intended recent engagement at Southwell where he was drawn wide in stall 14 of 14, looks likely to encounter the required decent gallop thanks for the presence of three pace angles and his yard’s all-weather runners typically perform well off a break of 40 days or longer, landing 54 of their 320 starts (16.9% strike-rate) since the spring of 2016 for a profit of £115.74 to a £1 level stake at SP.
7.30 Kempton – SAX APPEAL (1pt ew – 11/1 bet365)
The Charlie Johnston-trained SAX APPEAL, a non-runner when I put him up as a bet at Lingfield a couple of Saturdays ago, could only finish eighth of the 13 runners in a 1m4f Kempton handicap last month but that was his first start since February and his first since being gelded. Since the spring of 2016 his yard’s record in all-weathers handicaps with horses having their second starts after a gelding operation stands at 21 winners from 84 runners for a profit of £26.62 to a £1 level stake at SP. Four of the 12 qualifiers to run at Kempton won and the four-year-old can bounce back this evening.
