1.30 Southwell – RAMPANT (1pt E/W – 8/1 generally)

Progeny of the sire Roaring Lion are ten from 44 on Tapeta for a profit of £19.53 to a £1 level stake at SP and those figures were very nearly boosted by RAMPANT who went down by a short head to HOOFLEPUFF when 12-1 for a 1m2f handicap at Southwell three weeks ago. His only other Tapeta outing saw him finish a 28-1 third over the extended 1m4f at Newcastle on his debut and he looks solid each-way material on his first visit to Southwell. Only THE PUG can boast better speed figures (according to Proform) on the all-weather than the selection but stall 14 makes life tricky for that rival.

7.30 Kempton – SAIL ON SILVERBIRD (1pt E/W – 4/1 generally)

SAIL ON SILVERBIRD raced very wide from stall 9 of 10 at Wolverhampton last time, doing really well to finish second by a neck on a day the inside of the track looked the place to be. Michael Bell’s three-year-old was very strong in the market and, having hung right last time, will be suited by the return to right-handed Kempton where she ran so well on her racecourse debut, finishing third at 50-1 behind runners now rated 94 and 80.

9.00 Kempton – SURREY NOIR (1pt win – 10/3 Bet365, 9/4 generally)

James Doyle possibly overdid the waiting tactics on the Charlie Fellowes-trained SURREY NOIR over course and distance last time and the 11-2 favourite was a neck down in second place at the line. That was his first run since a gelding operation and his trainer has a solid record with geldings on their second run after the procedure, scoring with 13 of the 64 qualifiers for a profit of £52.08 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who finished in the top three on their latest outing were nine from 23 for a profit of £57.08.
