MARRACUDJA, shoved up to a mark of 154 after finishing third behind Defi Du Seuil and Un De Sceaux in last season’s Grade 1 Clarence House Chase at Ascot, can run off a 20lb lower mark today. The finish to the 2m7f Handicap Hurdle concerned only 22-1 shot Sartene’s Son and 40-1 outsider Loch Garman Aris from a long way out, with the former coming home ten lengths clear. The fourth and fifth-placed finishers also raced prominently and it was the performance of third home ROYAL CLARET that caught the eye. Tom Symonds’ nine-year-old mare did well to place under a patient ride and was a massive 17 lengths clear of the next hold-up horse. Two of her three wins have come at over course and distance and she’s back down to her last wining mark.
