POINT OF WOODS has finished 12th of 15, 20th of 20, 9th of 11 and 9th of 9 in his four runs this year – latterly when we backed him each-way – and is probably badly drawn in stall 2 of 13 in this 6f handicap. However, he’s caught the eye the last twice – finding his route repeatedly blocked and finishing full of running on each occasion, though cynics (moi?) would say that he was ridden with an eye to the future. His latest win came over today’s course and distance off an 8lb lower mark, he’s won in the month of July on three previous occasions and his yard’s last runner was a 40-1 winner. He’s worth an each-way bet at 14-1+.
