BEATTHEBULLET, 8th, 3m5.5f handicap chase, Bangor, Friday, February 10th

BEATTHEBULLET trailed home over 50 lengths behind the winner when 40-1 for the RPM North Wales National Handicap Chase at Bangor last Friday but is one to bear in mind for early next season. The Rebecca Curtis-trained nine-year-old won second-time out on November 25th2020 and was a winner on his seasonal debut on November 21st 2021.

CRAMBO, won, 2m novices’ hurdle, Bangor, Friday, February 10th

CRAMBO clocked a useful time when easily landing the Vogelberg Family EBF “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle by just over four lengths from the front-running Waspy. Sent off as the 8-11 favourite, Fergal O’Brien’s six-year-old had undergone wind surgery since pulling up when just 7-1 for the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury in December and should be able to go on from here.

GREANETEEN, 3rd, 2m Grade 2 chase, Newbury, Saturday, February 11th

GREANETEEN, the 1-2 favourite, could only finish third of five to Funambule Sivola in the Grade 2 Betfair Exchange Game Spirit Chase at Newbury last weekend but often bounces back from a defeat and could surprise in the Champion Chase next time. He’s arguably best right-handed but was a two-length 50-1 fourth in the 2021 Champion Chase having also finished third in the Game Spirit on his previous outing.

CHAMBARD, 4th, 3m veterans’ handicap chase, Exeter, Sunday, February 12th

Last year’s Kim Muir winner CHAMBARD failed to complete in his first two runs this term but showed much more at Exeter last Sunday when plodding on into a 24-length 14-1 fourth in the Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Veterans’ Handicap Chase. The ground would have been quicker than ideal and he’ll be very interesting if stepped up in trip for the Eider Chase at Newcastle a week on Saturday.

JENSON BENSON, won, 1m2f handicap, Chelmsford, Friday, February 10th

After two defeats at shortish odds at Wolverhampton, JENSON BENSON clearly appreciated the return to Chelmsford last Friday where he landed the Caroline White Birthday Celebration Handicap at odds of 7-2. His course record now reads 13132512041 (4-11) and there could be more to come over this 1m2f trip.

KARDINYA, 7th, 8.6f handicap, Wolverhampton, Monday, February 13th

KARDINYA, stuck out wide in stall 13 of 13 in the Spreadex Sports 2nd To Rag Insurance Handicap at Wolverhampton on Monday night, drifted from 11-2 out to 8-1 and never got involved under a patient ride. He overcame a similarly difficult draw over course and distance to score at 16-1 in late December, breaking smartly from stall 12 and sitting in second place before taking up the running two out, so it was disappointing that he didn’t go forward from the outset. He could make a quick return to action at Chelmsford on Thursday night.

MALAKAHNA, 4th, 2m5f Listed mares’ hurdle, Warwick, Saturday, February 11th

The Ian Williams-trained MALAKAHNA had little chance with the likes of Theatre Glory and Molly Ollys Wishes in the Virgin Bet Best Odds Daily Warwick Mares’ Hurdle but got the diesel money and more by picking up almost £1600 for her 25-1 fourth of five, 25 lengths behind the winner. She tends to perform best from sprint to early autumn, recording form figures from March to October of 1111462611 (6-10) for a profit of £22.35 to a £1 level stake at SP.

MUSICAL SLAVE, won, 3m veterans’ handicap chase, Exeter, Sunday, February 12th

MUSICAL SLAVE got up in the dying strides to deny Mister Malarky in the Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Veterans’ Handicap Chase, clearly appreciating the better ground after his last-of-the-seven-finishers effort in the Welsh Grand National. He often comes good at around this time of year and now has form figures from February to May of 61113239931121 (6-14) for a profit of £13.80.

ROXBORO ROAD, 9th, 2m3.5f handicap hurdle, Catterick, Monday, February 13th

David Thompson’s TIDEWELL wouldn’t look an obvious horse to follow after his 28-1 last-of-eight in division one of Monday’s BetUK Over 40,000 Live Streamed Raced Handicap at Wolverhampton but this run, his first since September and first since a wind operation, was no doubt needed. He finished a half-length 50-1 second in a course and distance maiden for David Barron in December 2021 and should find a small race at some point.

TONE THE BARONE, won, 5f handicap, Wolverhampton, Saturday, February 11th

TONE THE BARONE ran out a comfortable winner of the Class 2 Top Odds Every Day With BetUK Handicap and has now won 12 of his 21 starts over the minimum trip when faced with eight or fewer rivals.
