Andrew Mount's Eyecatchers - Tuesday, 15th November

GG tipster Andrew Mount reveals his list of eyecatchers from the past week’s action.

Find out which runners he wants to keep onside below, alongside bet365‘s new customer offer of £50 in Free Bets when you deposit and bet £10.

ANIGHTINLAMBOURN (won, 3m1f amateur riders’ handicap chase, Cheltenham, Saturday, November 12th)

ANIGHTINLAMBOURN, unlucky to finish second in a similar contest here in October, made no mistake in the Celotex Thermaclass Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Chase. She’s earned her best four RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) on her last four starts and could still have more in the locker. Ben Pauling suggested that she could return here in December though a break before a spring campaign would seem the obvious route.

BROKEN QUEST (second, 2m4f veterans’ handicap chase, Cheltenham, Friday, November 11th)

The David Dennis-trained BROKEN QUEST found only Magic Dancer (see below) one length too good in the Glenfarcles Veterans’ Handicap Chase and the ten-year-old can go one better soon. He has a good career strike-rate (nine from 27) and is lightly raced for his age. More interesting, is his preference for a right-handed track as all nine wins came when racing in that direction.

CHESSPIECE (won, 1m2f maiden, Newcastle, Friday, November 11th)

It’s been especially difficult to win from stalls 1, 2 or 3 in big fields on the round course at Newcastle of late and Simon & Ed Crisford’s CHESSPIECE, drawn in stall 2, overcame a market drift (100-30 from 15-8) to land the 1m2f talkSPORT Powered By Fans EBF Maiden Stakes at Newcastle last Friday. He held off two strong challenges after taking up the running over a furlong out (much earlier than ideal at this venue) and looks an exciting prospect.

CYCLOP (third, 3m3.5f handicap chase, Fontwell, Sunday, November 13th)

CYCLOP tends to run well at this time of year and defied a 13-month break to finish a solid 40-1 second of six in handicap hurdle company at Musselburgh on November 2nd. He returned to fences in the Vickers.Bet Southern National Handicap Chase at Fontwell on Sunday and recorded another useful placed effort, this time finishing third of 16 at 22-1. His record in November/December now reads 3413F1433213211223 (5-18).

MAGIC DANCER (won, 2m4f veterans’ handicap chase, Cheltenham, Friday, November 11th)

MAGIC DANCER clocked a good time (compared to the earlier 2m handicap chase) when landing the 2m4f Glenfarclas Veterans’ Handicap Chase and Kerry Lee’s ten-year-old will be hard to beat next time if kept to similar company.

MATCHLESS (won, 2m novices’ hurdle, Newcastle, Thursday, November 10th)

MATCHLESS was in my tracker after his pleasing 40-1 two-length fifth of 14 from the front in a 1m2f Tapeta handicap here in September and was sent off at 4-1 to make a winning debut over hurdles on his first start for Jennie Candlish. He won comfortably under a prominent ride and there should be plenty more to come.

PARICOLOR (third, 3m handicap hurdle, Ffos Las, Sunday, November 6th)

PARICOLOR could only finish a seven-and-a-half-length third of six in the 3m Join Vickers.bet Free Bet Club Handicap Hurdle, but this was his first run since early May and was no doubt needed. David Pipe’s six-year-old is now 0-9 for his current yard when returning from a break of more than 30 days, compared to nine from 19 when running within a month of his latest outing. He’ll be fitter next time.

POLITACUS (fifth, 2m, national hunt flat race, Cheltenham, Saturday, November 12th)

Queens Gamble impressed in the Stirrups Restaurant And Cocktail Bare Evesham Mares’ Open National Hunt Flat Race that closed Cheltrnham’s card on Saturday but there were others who caught the eye in this Listed contest including 125-1 fifth POLITACUS. Fergal O’Brien’s four-year-old stayed on to finish just over ten lengths behind the winner after becoming outpaced and was only about two lengths behind 100-30 second favourite and stablemate Bonnttay, who beat all bar the impressive winner.

THE GLANCING QUEEN (fifth, 2m handicap chase, Cheltenham, Friday, November 11th)

THE GLANCING QUEEN took her record outside of mares’ only company to 0-10 when only fifth in the Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Handicap Chase. Re-race, I said she shouldn’t be favourite and was amazed to see her go off as the 100-30 market leader. This 14-length defeat is easily excused, and she’ll be something to bet on when next running against her own sex.

YOUARENOTFORGIVEN (12th, 1m handicap, Kempton, Wednesday, November 9th)

YOUARENOTFORGIVEN had done well to win at Leicester in early October, as his patient style was at a big disadvantage. He couldn’t build on that in the 1m Norwich Inns ‘The Sign Of Excellence’ Handicap at Kempton last Wednesday, trailing home 12th of the 14 runners, but he was trapped wide from his stall 10 draw and is clearly best on turf (his all-weather record now reads 6900). He came to hand early last season and is one to put in the tracker for next year.
