CIVIL LAW (won, 9.4f handicap, Wolverhampton, Saturday, November 19th)

CIVIL LAW returned to winning ways in the 9.4f Huge Daily Boosts At BetUK Handicap at Wolverhampton last Saturday night, after which connections were asked to explain the improvement after his ninth of ten at Ascot when last seen. The 105-day break was given as the reason but returning to Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface was probably the key, as he’s just one from 12 on turf but has form figures at Dunstall Park of 1211 (3-4), with the defeat by a neck.

DIAMOND RANGER (second, 9.4f handicap, Wolverhampton, Saturday, November 19th)

DIAMOND RANGER had trailed home last of 18 at York on his previous outing but matched his career-best RRP (Racing Post Rating) of 93 when a half-length runner-up to Civil Law (see above). He won here over 7f in June on his only other all-weather outing and there should be plenty more to come on synthetics this winter.

GOOD NEWS (won, 3m handicap hurdle, Kempton, Monday, November 21st)

Ten-year-old GOOD NEWS gamely landed the 3m Wise Betting @racingtv.com Handicap Hurdle by half a length from Island Run, belying fears that the ground would be too soft for him. He has a fine strike-rate over hurdles (nine from 30) and his record when visored now reads 1P43111141 (6-10) for a profit of £27.50 to a £1 level stake at SP, improving to 1P411111 (6-8) when returned to the track within eight weeks of his previous outing.

HOLDING ACES (seventh, 1m2f handicap, Dundalk, Wednesday, November 23rd)

Five-race maiden HOLDING ACES took a step in the right direction when a 28-1 seventh of 14 in division two of the 1m2f Christmas Party Nights At Dundalk Stadium Handicap, doing really well to finish just over three behind the winner after challenging closest to the ‘dead’ rail. He’s in the 5.30 race over the same trip here on Wednesday and, with luck, Wayne Lordan, will take the centre to stands’ side route in the straight rather than duck down the inside.

JAZZY DANCER (fifth, 6f handicap, Dundalk, Wednesday, November 23rd)

JAZZY DANCER had the worst of the draw in stall 1 of 14 in the 6f DKITSU Race Night Handicap at Dundalk last Wednesday afternoon and did well to finish fifth after challenging closest to the far side rail. He was backed from 14-1 into 17-2 despite his draw and his entered over an extra furlong here in the 4.00 on Wednesday this week. Unfortunately, he has another low draw to overcome (stall 2 of 14).

JUNGLE PROSE (won, 3m handicap hurdle, Punchestown, Saturday, November 19th)

JUNGLE PROSE had clocked a good speed figure (according to Proform’s ratings) when scoring at Down Royal on November 4th and followed up in similarly comfortable fashion in the Conway Piling Handicap Hurdle. Her record in cheekpieces for current trainer Gordon Elliott now reads 111 (3-3) and there could be plenty more to come.

NO NO TONIC (won, 2m4f handicap hurdle, Wincanton, Thursday, November 17th)

NO NO TONIC was allowed a soft lead in division one of the 2m4f Evelyn Partners Handicap Hurdle and duly made all to score by eight and a half lengths from 11-4 favourite Getaway Cory. Mark Gillard’s 8-1 shot loves it here and now has course figures of 625211 (2-6). Though yet to win elsewhere she’s run well in both starts at Taunton, finishing fourth of 17 (beaten by just over two lengths at 11-1) and fourth of 15, and she’s entered there on Thursday. She’s also in at Leicester on Sunday where’s she’s yet to run.

RIAAN (won, 2m4f handicap hurdle, Cork, Sunday, November 20th)

Gordon Elliott’s RIAAN, an eyecatching fifth in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail at Sligo last month, was backed from 8-1 into 7-2 favouritism when landing the Follow Us ON Social Media Handicap Hurdle at Cork last Sunday. He won with plenty in hand and can be followed until beaten.

THE MENSTONE GEM (third, 9.4f handicap, Wolverhampton, Saturday, November 19th)

THE MENSTONE GEM, who had done well to win from the front in a 1m2f handicap at Newcastle on November 1st, was restrained just behind front-runner Box To Box in the Class 3 Huge Daily Boosts At BetUk Handicap and raced keenly as a result. He got to the front very briefly in the straight but had nothing left in reserve and had to settle for a one-length third. This was a solid effort in the circumstances, and he still looks on the upgrade.

TRESHNISH (won, 1m7.5f handicap chase, Hexham, Wednesday, November 23rd)

Hexham expert TRESHNISH took his record at his favourite venue to 1F111 (4-5) when comfortably justifying 7-2 favouritism in the Tyne Grain Storage & Marketing For Famers Handicap Chase. His sole course defeat was most unlucky, as he fell at the last when six lengths clear and going easily.
