Aintree Racing Tips (Friday 10 April 2026)

Andrew has four selections running on Friday, all of them racing at Aintree’s Grand National meeting day 2.

1.45 Aintree – Ike Sport (1pt e/w – 20/1 bet365, 18/1 William Hill, 16/1 generally)

Nine of the last ten winners of this 2m4f handicap hurdle were ridden patiently in their prep race and Ike Sport, who arrived on the scene late before weakening into ninth place when 50-1 for the 24-runner Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham festival, is one of several who fit the bill. Neil Mulholland’s eight-year-old was disadvantaged by racing on the slower ground on the inside rail for much of that 3m contest at Cheltenham and that run was better than it looked. He enjoys decent ground and finished a solid 28-1 fifth in this race last season off a 3lb higher mark when they didn’t go hard enough up front for him. Dan Skelton’s conditional jockey Harry Atkins takes off 7lb and there should be sufficient pace on to compensate for the cut back in trip.

13:45 William Hill Handicap Hurdle (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race)

2.20 Aintree – Gold Dancer (1pt win – 9/2 bet365, 4/1 generally)

The last 12 winners of the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices’ Chase prepped by finishing first or second at Cheltenham and backing all 27 qualifiers in the study period returned a profit of £14.78 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 6.78, A/E = 1.77). This year’s sole qualifier is Willie Mullins’ Gold Dancer, runner-up to Meetmebythesea in the Jack Richards. Underfoot conditions are the key to the seven-year-old – he has lost all seven starts on ground rated soft or heavy by Proform but has form figures on good going of 1112 (he’s yet to race on good to soft).

14:20 William Hill Mildmay Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) (GBB Race)

4.05 Aintree – Lisnamult Lad (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 generally)

Lisnamult Lad, runner-up to Gentleman De Mee, in the Topham Handicap Chase 12 months ago, can go one better in this year’s renewal. Ian Donoghue’s nine-year-old usually struggles on winter ground, recording form figures of FP5P (0-4) during the November to February period. His record over obstacles from March to October reads 13132284412F (4-13) for a profit of £21.98 to a £1 level stake at SP. Last year’s winner tends to perform best in the latter stages of the peak jumps season, landing six of his 15 starts from February to April for a profit of £16.98, and could again be dangerous, as could Coming Up Easy, another who peaks at this time of year.

16:05 Randox Topham Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race)

5.15 Aintree – Star Of Guiting (0.5pt e/w – 33/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, both six places, 33/1 bet365, Hills, five places)

This 2m handicap hurdle for conditional jockeys/amateur riders usually go to a horse ridden patiently and habitual hold-up horse Star Of Guiting looks a value each-way option. Ewan Whillans five-year-old was sent off as 4-1 favourite for a 14-runner Class 2 handicap hurdle over the 2m1.5f trip at Musselburgh last rime but took up the running too soon (two out) and weakened into fifth place. His other runs on sharp tracks for his current yard have returned form figures of U211 (2-4) with the runner-up effort at 25-1.

17:15 Debenhams Handicap Hurdle (Conditional Jockeys’ And Amateur Riders’ Race) (GBB Race)
