12.20 Naas – CEROC (1pt win – 5/1 generally)
CEROC pulled up at Listowel on September 26th – his first run since leaving Edward O’Grady for Andrew Slattered – but he attracted market support and had excuses, getting brought to a virtual standstill by a faller at the sixth and blundering badly at the ninth. He built on that when runner-up at Clonmel the following month where he was not helped by jumping out to his left on the right-handed track. He reverts to a left-handed track today and holds solid claims.
2.40 Sandown – AURIGNY MILL (1pt win – 5/1 bet365)
AURIGNY MILL improved for the switch to Robert Walford last season, scoring by ten lengths in Class 3 handicap hurdle company at Newbury on his reappearance and later adding a Class 2 contest at Taunton in January. He should have won again at Taunton in February, but Joe Anderson took the ‘swamp’ route on the inside rail, and he had to settle for second place behind Luttrell Lad. The eight-year-old struggled at Plumpton next time but that was in the Sussex Champion Hurdle, a hot Class 2 handicap won by the Willie Mullins-trained Absurde. He returns to calmer waters for his reappearance outing and should get a good tow into the race courtesy of CONTINUANCE.
