Ascot Racing Tips (Friday 1 May 2026)

Seven races take place at Ascot on Friday, with Andrew’s best bet on the card looking an eye-catching each-way selection in the 4.20pm contest.

4.20 Ascot – All Ways Glamorous (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 Sky Bet, five places 12/1 generally)

Chris Mason saddled a winning seasonal debutant at Bath earlier this week – 15-2 chance Solar Edge – to take his record with colts or geldings in handicaps, since the start of 2019, to 30 winners from 177 runners (17% strike-rate) for a profit of £85.25 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£131.43 ay Betfair SP after 2% commission). Today, it is the turn of All Ways Glamorous, a consistent 5f performer. The five-year-old gelding’s full record over a straight 5f, since qualified for handicaps, stands at 1218125222 (3-10), including a solid second of 15 on his only previous visit to Ascot. His dam, Go Glamorous, has been responsible for 84 runners at the minimum trip with 16 winners and a profit of £32.33 at SP. His high draw could prove helpful, and he finished a close second on last season’s reappearance.

Goodwood Racing Tips (Friday 1 May 2026)

It’s a 2.05pm start at Goodwood, with Andrew veering to the 4.25pm race for his best bet on the card at the south coast venue.

4.25 Goodwood – Diligently (1pt win – 9/2 bet365, 4/1 generally)

Diligently paid for trying to go with impressive winner Double Rush in a hot 6f Class 2 handicap at Newmarket on last month’s reappearance/first start since a gelding operation and his 16-1 fourth was worthy of an upgrade, as he fared second best of the prominent racers. The Clive Cox-trained four-year-old looks very interesting dropping back down to Class 3 level and his trainer has a very good record with his runners on their second start back from a gelding operation, scoring with 27 of the 108 qualifiers since 2019 for a profit of £35.31 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 17.16, A/E = 1.57) and that was before 8-1 shot Langstone won at Kempton on Thursday night.

Punchestown Racing Tips (Friday 1 May 2026)

It’s day four of the Punchestown Festival on Friday, with Andrew heading to the competitive listed handicap chase at 5.25pm for his best bet.

5.25 Punchestown – Norn Iron (1pt e/w – 12/1 bet365, five places, 10/1 generally with the firms paying six places, e.g. Sky Bet)

Harry Derham has a fine record with last time out winners who were stepping up in class, scoring with 26 of the 89 qualifiers for a profit of £24.83 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£44.06 at Betfair SP after comm). The expected number of winners according to their odds was just 17.50 (A/E = 1.49). Only five of the qualifiers ran at the Punchestown festival and they produced two winners (18-1 and 8-1), two seconds (12-1 and 10-1) and an 11-1 fifth. Today it is the turn of hat-trick seeker Norn Iron, whose latest Sandown success took his record over 2m3f or further to 211 (2-3), with the defeat by a neck. The eight-year-old is ground and tactically versatile and is worth an each-way punt.
