Ascot Racing Tips (Friday 24 July 2026)
A six-race card takes place at Ascot on Friday, with Andrew looking to hit the ground running with a big-priced pick in the opening race at 2.20pm.
2.20 Ascot – Cut And Sew (0.5pt e/w – 16/1 Paddy Power, 14/1 generally)
I’ve often discussed the fine record of Ed Walker with second time out juveniles in this column, and the score currently stands at 57 winners from 337 runners (16.9% strike-rate) for a profit of £2.48 to a £1 level stake at SP. That profit improves to £61.41at Betfair SP after 2% commission and the expected number of winners, judged on their odds, was only 47.26 (A/E =1.21). I put up a selection at a big price on this angle at Salisbury on Tuesday – Hackpen Hill (15-2 from 16-1) – and while that one could only finish fourth, he did trade at 2.76 (about 7-4) in running after cutting out the early pace on the slowest part of the track. Today, I’m expecting Cut And Sew to take a step forward from last month’s Goodwood debut when she finished a seven-length third of five in a 5f maiden. Slowly away that day, she emerged best of those to come from off the pace and the two that beat her were colts. The switch to fillies-only company looks ideal and she’s well drawn in stall 8 of 8.
Thirsk Racing Tips (Friday 24 July 2026)
Thirsk host a seven-race afternoon fixture, with Andrew having a 1pt each-way selection in the 4.18pm race.
4.18 Thirsk – Miss Rainbow (1pt e/w – 15/2 bet365, 13/2 generally)
Miss Rainbow won this 6f handicap 12 months ago, 48 hours after a third-place finish at Catterick, and arrives here after an identical prep. The five-year-old has form figures of 11312 (3-5) on turf after a very recent outing (eight days or less), including Thirsk figures of 112 (2-3). This race has clearly been the plan again and she rates a soldi bet. Taygar has won in July in each of the past two seasons, clocked a useful time when runner-up at Ayr last time, and looks the main danger. I’ve saved on her and done the reversed forecast with Miss Rainbow.
