Ascot Tips (Friday 24th July 2026)
It’s a 2.20pm start at Ascot, with six races taking place across their decent card. Here’s the best bets for the racing at the Berkshire track.
2.55 Ascot – Silver Dominion (1pt win – 4/1)
Oliver Cole’s Silver Dominion was a gutsy winner on debut when landing a Newbury contest by a head. He was then stepped up significantly in grade on his second start, as he lined up in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket. Sent off 33/1 that day, he outran his odds to finish fourth behind Al Hudaiba. That is very smart form, so a drop back to listed level here could well see him in the winner’s enclosure once again. He will have learned plenty from that second run, and with more improvement to come he can duly land his first bit of black-type.
4.05 Ascot – Study Of Words (1pt win – 5/1)
Second in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, Al Azd was given a huge 8lbs hike in the handicap for that run, but he’s one that has to be given the utmost respect in the 4.05pm at Ascot. He’s one that could certainly be on his way to Pattern company, but in Study Of Words he could face a lively rival on Friday. Charlie Appleby’s son of Frankel has disappointed on his last two outings, but a drop of 2lbs means he lines up here off 93. If he can somehow find his best then he could well make the most of carrying bottom weight and can land this prize.
4.40 Ascot – Mr Writer (1pt win – 7/2)
Win two wins in his last three outings, Mr Writer has been in the form of his life for James Fanshawe. A winner last time out at Leicester, he’s been given a 4lbs rise by the handicapper for that win, but that may not be enough to stop him going in again at 4.40pm. The son of Dark Angel is dealing with his highest career mark in this competitive contest, which is the penultimate race on the card, but he’s shown like he has more to give and he can continue his hot winning streak.
York Tips (Friday 24th July 2026)
Six races take place at York, with the first race at 5.32pm. Our sole selection on the Knavesmire runs in the 6.05pm contest.
6.05 York – Vaguely Royal (1pt win – 6/1)
Roger Teal’s Rogue Empire is going in search of a fourth win on the bounce in the 6.05pm at York. However, the son of Time Test will need to contend with an 8lbs rise for his most recent win, so a mark of 74 could well stretch him. One adversary that lines up on the back of a success is Vaguely Royal for Ian Williams and William Buick. Having tumbled down the handicap, he got his head in front at Chester last time out, and whilst he’s been given a 4lbs rise this could be a race that suits him. The visor appeared to work at Chester and Williams opts for it again here, so if he can replicate that run on the Roodee then he can score.
