Ayr Racing Tips (Friday 17 April 2026)
Andrew’s tip at Ayr runs in the feature Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase and is a veteran specialist at this time of year.
3.30 Ayr – Dubai Days (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 generally)
Donnacha did this column a good turn when scoring narrowly at odds of 12-1 from Jagwar at Cheltenham on Trials Day and looks set to encounter his preferred soft going. However, odds of around 2-1 don’t appeal on the back of an 83-day break and I’d rather chance veteran Dubai Days. Nick Alexander’s 12-year-old was a winner here on his penultimate start and ran with credit in a hot veterans’ handicap chase at Haydock last time, finishing sixth of 17 behind our pick Outlaw Peter and doing second best of the non-ten-year-olds. His record in March/April when he’s had two of more runs in the past two months reads 11112122 (5-8) and his full course record reads 3131152251 (4-10), with both fifth places in the autumn when in need of the run on his seasonal debut.
Bath Racing Tips (Friday 17 April 2026)
Bath host eight races heading into Friday evening. Andrew’s selection at the south-west track runs in the opener.
4.15 Bath – Educator (1pt win – 11/2 bet365)
Educator’s last three wins have come in the spring, the latest pair when arriving late under Hollie Doyle. Henrietta knight’s seven-year-old drops down from Class 3 to Class 5 level after finishing well held on the all-weather at Newcastle under a 5lb claimer in February and Doyle is back on board today. His full record in the March to May period stands at 1892611 (3-7) improving to 12611 (3-5) below Class 2 level. The fast ground will suit, and his trainer is among the winners.
Newbury Racing Tips (Friday 17 April 2026)
At Newbury, Andrew’s tip runs in the penultimate race, a competitive 15-runner handicap.
4.55 Newbury – May Angel (0.5pt each-way – 10/1 generally, Sky bet five places)
John Gosden rarely gives wind operations to his horses, but it pays to sit up and take notice when he does. He’s scored with 11 of the 20 qualifiers since wind surgery had to be declared in January 2018 and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £24.26 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 5.37, A/E = 2.05). The colts are only four from 11 (+£0.18) but the fillies (3-4, +£10.00) and geldings (4-5, +£14.08) do exceptionally well and May Angel looks worth chancing in this hot 7f handicap on the back of the wind op. She ran out a comfortable winner of a 7f Southwell novice on her second start last term and was highly tried after, running fifth and sixth in a pair of Group 3s. She didn’t finish off her race last time, but the subsequent wind surgery suggests excuses.
Wolverhampton Racing Tips (Friday 17 April 2026)
Across the seven races at Wolverhampton, Andrew waits until the lucky last for his best bet.
5.35 Wolverhampton – Port Noir (1pt win – 7/2 bet365, 100/30 generally)
Port Noir has a cracking record at Wolverhampton for current handler Robert Stephens when given a recent outing (21 days or less) and a stall 7 or lower draw. The veterans’ record under these conditions stands at eight wins from 27 starts for a profit of £31.50 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected wins = 2.98, A/E = 2.68). She won with something in hand under regular rider Rose Dawes here eight days ago and her trainer’s full record when bringing one back to the races within nine days of a previous run stands at 20 winners from 75 runners for a huge profit of £124.38, including a three from four haul so far this year.
