Ayr & Lingfield Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Monday 6 July

Andrew Mount attempts to follow a profitable week last week with some winners on Monday 6th July. He heads to Ayr and Lingfield for his best bets of the day, as he has two selections across the brace of cards

Ayr Racing Tips (Monday 6 July 2026)

It’s a 2.30pm start for Ayr’s seven-race card. However, you have to wait until 4.30pm for Andrew’s best bet of the day at the Scottish track.

4.30 Ayr – Rousing Encore (1pt e/w– 4/1 generally)

Rousing Encore has proved frustrating so far this season since his eyecatching reappearance 18-1 fifth of 13 to subsequent Wokingham winner Double Rush at Newmarket’s Craven meeting but has had excuses. Ruth Carr’s six-year-old was unsuited to making the running when fifth of six at Doncaster next time, met trouble when 15th of 22 behind Dark Thirty at York, did best of the hold-up horses when a 12-1 fourth of 14 at Carlisle and, last time out, had little chance from a very high draw at York. He was a place and a length and a half in front of Yes I’m Mali in that York race and that one was just touched off at Newmarket on his next start. The return to Ayr will suit, as his record here reads 2181 (2-4), with the runner-up effort by half a length and the eighth place at 22-1 in the 25-runner Silver Cup. Stall 5 of 18 looks useful, as the far side has seemed favoured on the straight course at Ayr this season and he’s well drawn near likely pace angle Parisiac (stall 4).

Lingfield Racing Tips (Monday 6 July 2026)

Nine races take place at Lingfield, with a 2.15pm start. Andrew has a 1pt win selection in the 4.50pm event.

4.50 Lingfield – Solar Edge (1pt win – 11/2 Sky Bet, Paddy Power)

The temptation with this 5f handicap is to conclude that the early pace will be very strong – five of the nine participants made the running on their latest start – and that the race will be set-up for a closer. However, very few horses win from off the pace in 5f Polytrack handicaps here in the June to August period when the kickback can be severe, even when it looks like a burn-up on paper. Since 2016, only ten of the 140 hold-up horses across the 48 course and distance handicaps run in high summer were successful and backing those blindly returned a loss of £65.92 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected wins = 17.33, A/E = 0.58). Front-runners were 11 from 51 (+£25.63 at SP) and prominent racers were 27 from 155 (-£2.50 at SP but +£18.03 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). Backing any horses who made the running in their prep race would have found 15 winners from 66 bets for a profit of £34.00 at SP. A wider trip can also help runners to avoid the kickback and stall 1 runners usually struggle in these races in the summer, with just four winners from 47 qualifiers for a loss of £18.00 (expected wins = 7.52, A/E = 0.53). Solar Edge raced on the ‘dead’ rail when a neck second at Windsor on his latest start and his narrow defeat was worthy of an upgrade. His sole all-weather win came over course and distance from a wide draw (stall 7 of 10) and I view his stall 8 of 9 position as a positive today. He’s on the drift – 11-2 best with the firms and 8.4 on Betfair – but that looks to be an over-reaction, especially with two of the fancied runners – Almaty Star (stall 1) and Accrual (stall 2) – drawn on the inside.
