Ayr Racing Tips (Sunday 18 April 2026)
Seven races make up Ayr’s jumps card on Sunday, with the Scottish Grand National the highlight of the card at 3.35pm. Check out our best bets for the afternoon north of the border.
2.20 Ayr – Tutti Quanti (1pt win – 9/2)
A runaway 15-length winner of the William Hill Hurdle at Newbury earlier in the season, Tutti Quanti was no match for the likes of Lossiemouth and co. in the Champion Hurdle. Now returning to the handicap sphere, the Paul Nicholls-trained raider will attempt to carry top weight to victory in the Scottish Champion Hurdle at 2.20pm. He relished the soft ground at Newbury, so will be hoping for the ground to be far from quick on Saturday. He’s also 13lbs higher in this contest, but the manner in which he cruised to victory suggested he is a potential Graded performer. This is much easier than the Cheltenham Festival contest, and whilst Tellherthename is a lively rival, Tutti Quanti is the class act in the race, and can dominate from the flag fall.
3.35 Ayr – Montregard (1pt win – 9/1)
Tom Lacey’s Montregard has been hugely progressive this season and the JP McManus-owned raider can end his season with a flourish by winning the Scottish Grand National at 3.35pm. Three wins from five starts this season shows he’s in flying form and he was last seen bounding to victory at Ascot. He’s 7lbs higher for that recent Ascot win, but he does step up in markedly in trip, so has to show he can see out the trip. However, the ground shouldn’t be too testing at Ayr, so he should be able to see out the trip and continue his fine recent record.
Newbury Racing Tips (Sunday 18 April 2026)
There’s another seven races taking place at Newbury, with the Greenham Stakes the feature race on the card. However, we veer away from that contest and pick out two horses in two other races.
2.35 Newbury – Lion’s Pride (1pt win – 11/2)
A fascinating John Porter Stakes takes place at Newbury at 2.35pm. Convergent and Pride Of Arras are the two to beat, but the former has to give weight away, whilst Pride Of Arras is likely to be using this as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. John & Thady Gosden have been in fine form this week and they saddle Lion’s Pride to victory. A seven-length winner of a Listed event at Kempton on his last British start, the Roaring Lion gelding was last seen struggling in Group 2 company in Bahrain. Dropping back to Group 3 here, he should relish the easier assignment here and the Gosden charge can cause a minor shock.
3.10 Newbury – Shout (1pt win – 9/1)
Simon & Ed Crisford’s Shout failed to land any sort of the blow in the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster on his first run of the season. However, he showed when winning a big field handicap at Ascot that he has the ability to strike gold. He followed that Ascot win up with a fine fourth in the Balmoral Handicap at Ascot off a mark of 100. He lines up off that same figure on Saturday in the Spring Cup Handicap at 3.10pm. Sure to strip fitter for those Doncaster exertions, he’s one with potential to improve significantly this season and he can land this competitive handicap at 3.10pm.
