Bath Racing Tips (Tuesday 12 May 2026)
Seven races take place at Bath on Tuesday, with a 2.20pm start. Andrew Mount’s best bet on the card runs in the 2.50pm contest.
2.50 Bath – Thurso (1pt win – 3/1 William Hill, Sky Bet, Paddy Power)
I was initially tempted by Candy Warhol in this 5.7f handicap as Scott Dixon’s seven-year-old looks set to get loose on the lead in the first-time blinkers. However, he’s 0-9 on turf and didn’t look straightforward when third at Windsor the other day. I’ll back him to trade in-running, but the recommended bet is Richard Hughes’s Thurso who will appreciate the return to turf after his last-of-eight finish at Southwell last month. That took his record on the all-weather to just one from 16 but he has form figures in turf sprints of 211 (2-3) and his speed figures are superior to today’s rivals.
Beverley Racing Tips (Tuesday 12 May 2026)
It’s a 2.30pm start for Beverley’s six-race card. You have to wait until 4.00pm for Andrew’s stand out selection at the Yorkshire track.
4.00 Beverley – Tanjen (1pt win – 15/2 William Hill, Paddy Power, 7/1 generally)
There are certain trainers I like to avoid when they saddle a last-time out winner, including Roger Fell, whose Glory Hyde scored at Wetherby 16 days ago when a selection in this column. Since the beginning of 2021, only 16 of the 171 qualifiers (9.4% strike-rate) have followed up and backing them blind returned a loss of £101.33 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected wins = 24.89, A/E = 0.64). The five-year-old mare had True Promise just a neck back in second place that day and the runner-up is notoriously hard to win with (now 0-10 on turf after his subsequent defeat). Course and distance winner Hover On The Wind has possibilities, as he’s won in early May in each of the past two seasons, but the 60-day break and presence of fellow pacesetter Jojo Rabbit are concerns. More interesting is Tim Easterby’s Tanjen, who fared best of the quartet to race down the centre of the track when an 11-1 fifth of nine at Goodwood ten days ago. That was her first run since September, and she’ll likely improve for it. The daughter of Kodi Bear has a good record when returned to the track quickly, recording form figures of 1312 (2-4) when brought back to the track within 11 days of her latest outing. The quick ground will suit and she’s likely to be well positioned, stalking the early pace.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Tuesday 12 May 2026)
Lingfield Park host an early evening Flat card, which kicks off at 5.15pm. You don’t have to wait long for Andrew’s pick, as he has an eye-catching each-way selection in the opening race.
5.15 Lingfield – Polling Day (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 generally)
Since making his debut for Neil King, Arc Zoosve’s flat record stands at 14125111 (5-8) and the five-year-old is a standout on last-time out speed figures for this 2m apprentice handicap. However, he’s priced accordingly (8-11 best at the time of writing) and there’s always the prospect of a ‘dead’ inside rail and his front-running style not being ideal for Lingfield, especially if taken on for the led by Mio Amico. Bernard Llewellyn runs two in the race and, while Bulldog Spirit will appreciate the small field, he seems happiest on Tapeta and I’d rather side with Polling Day. The eight-year-old is useful on the all-weather, recording form figures of 11444065337 (2-11), improving to 1143 (2-4) when running at Lingfield without headgear. The wins came over 1m2f/1m4f and he’s yet to race over further on the all-weather, but he shapes as though it will suit and Sea The Stars progeny have a good record over 2m or further on synthetics. I’m having a small each-way bet and will also play him in the without the favourite and forecast markets.
