Saturday’s racing focuses on a rare feature meeting for Carlisle. The Cumbria track has stepped in to host this week’s headline races with Haydock forced to cancel.
From the main meeting, as well as at Chester, Andrew Mount has five best bets for Saturday.

Carlisle Racing Tips (Saturday 30 May 2026)
Carlisle have come to the rescue on Saturday to save some significant Pattern races. Andrew has four tips at the track during the afternoon.
1.30 Carlisle – Rogue Millions (1pt win – 9/1 generally)
In-form Ed Bethell does well at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers (not including the name change on the licence when he took over from his father James), scoring with 15 of the 43 qualifiers (34.9% strike-rate) for a profit of £17.41 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected wins = 8.41, A/E = 1.78). The score in turf handicaps only is 11 from 25 (44%) for a profit of £22.45. Four of those were also having their first outing since a gelding operation, with two winning (6-1 and 9-4), including Murasha who landed a gamble for this column at Thirsk on April 18th. Today, it is the turn of Rogue Millions, ex-James Owen, who has been gelded since his 12-1 sixth of even at Ascot last September. It looks significant that he debuts for his new trainer over the course and distance of his latest success and, while I’d rather have been drawn higher than stall 6 given Friday’s high-draw bias, I still want an involvement in a race that should be run to suit.
2.33 Carlisle – Washington Heights (1pt win – 11/3 bet365, William Hill, 5-1 generally) + 0.5pt reversed forecast Washington Heights and Red Orange
As mentioned on GG’s Weekend Watch (Youtube channel/podcast) on Thursday I have this 5f Listed contest as a two-horse race between Washington Heights and Red Orange. The early betting put Starlust in at a daft price (around 11-4) and while Ralph Beckett’s five-year-old could make his mark in Group company later this season he’ll improve for this pipe-opener and has to be opposed (he’s already out to 6-1 on Betfair). Washington Heights was given too much to do at Newmarket last time but drops back down into Listed company for the first time since a front-running success at York last summer and a return to such tactics will make him hard to beat. The progressive Red Orange has been well supported since the prices were issued on Thursday and he’s worth including in a reversed forecast with the selection.
3.45 Carlisle – Laureate Crown (1pt e/w – 17/2 bet365, 8/1 generally) – Astrazar (0.5pt e/w – 22/1 bet365, 18/1 generally)
Laureate Crown raced too freely and hung right-handed when only sixth of eight over the straight mile at Doncaster on his handicap debut last autumn but improved considerably for being gelded over the winter, reappearing with a Wolverhampton victory despite missing the break. Oliver Cole’s three-year-old was a 7-1 winner for this column at Sandown next time where he again overcame a slow start to score by half a length in a 1m Class 2 handicap. The time was fast and, while I wouldn’t usually recommended backing hold-up horses at pace favouring Carlisle, he has a favourable high draw and there are plenty of front-runners in this competitive contest.
I also want to side with Astarazar, the one I tipped on GG’s Weekend Watch program. Ed Walker’s Starman gelding also has a high draw and was unlucky in-running at Newbury last time.
Chester Racing Tips (Saturday 30 May 2026)
Andrew has a tip in Chester’s main Saturday contest, a class 2 7f handicap.
3.30 Chester – Elements Of Fire (1pt e/w – 13/2 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, both four places)
I took a chance on Elements Of Fire at Ascot last time but he was taken on for the lead and raced away from the favoured stands’ side rail. With hindsight, the straight track wasn’t ideal either. Archie Watson’s pacesetter is four from four when racing left-handed (albeit all on the all-weather) but should be able to blast off from stall 1 and could prove hard to catch.
