It’s day 2 of Chester’s May Meeting on Thursday 7th May, with some competitive races taking place on the Roodee. Our GG Lucky 15 for Thursday focuses on the action around the tight turns of Chester, whilst we also have a sole selection at the National Hunt fixture at Huntingdon.
Chester Racing Tips (Thursday 7 May 2026)
Seven races make up Chester’s card on Thursday, with the action getting underway at 1.30pm. The feature race of the day is the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes at 3.05pm.
1.30 Chester – Roman Dragon (1pt win – 7/2)
Hugo Palmer’s Roman Dragon is a real Chester specialist, having claimed seven victories at the track. He will bid for an eighth in the opening race at 1.30pm on Thursday, which is a race he won 12 months ago. A narrow winner of the 2025 race by a nose, Roman Dragon has failed to get his head in front since, but he has duly dropped down the handicap in the process. He’s only 1lb higher than last year’s winning mark, so has to be respected. Drawn in stall 3, he’s entitled to be towards the head of the betting and he’s the one they all have to beat.
4.10 Chester – Let’s Dream (1pt win – 11/2)
Course form and a low draw are often huge positives at Chester and Michael Bell’s Let’s Dream has both in the 4.10pm race. A winner at this May fixture last season off a mark of 81, Bell’s charge is 8lbs higher in Thursday’s event, but drawn in stall two he has to be given a chance. He ended last season with a big-race handicap win at York, so a repeat of that effort here should see him go close. This is his seasonal reappearance, so he is likely to improve on that effort, but if he can sit prominently through the early stages then he can land the contest.
4.45 Chester – Mythical Bay (1pt win – 5/2)
Andrew Balding’s Mythical Bay took four races to break his maiden tag, but he did just that at Wolverhampton on his last start. He is looking to make it two from two in the finale at Chester at 4.45pm and looks capable of delivering once again. He lines up off a mark of 77 on handicap debut, but it’s the step up in trip that could bring on huge improvement. He has also been gelded since that Wolverhampton win, so that is likely to see him settle better and he should be able to storm clear in the closing stages for jockey Oisin Murphy.
Huntingdon Racing Tips (Thursday 7 May 2026)
There are only six races at Huntingdon on Thursday. We focus on the contest live on ITV Racing at 1.45pm, and complete our GG Lucky 15 with a pick in that two-and-a-half mile handicap chase.
1.45 Huntingdon – Ice In The Veins (1pt win – 4/1)
Disappointing on his last outing, Ice In The Veins ran too freely that day when ninth at Haydock Park over hurdles. Dan Skelton’s charge now heads over fences for the 1.45pm and he’s a very interesting contender. He was victorious over hurdles twice earlier in his career, which both came in small fields, so he will enjoy only having five rivals. Given a mark of 115, he could well be attractively handicapped, if improving for the switch to the larger obstacles and he is the tentative selection in a trappy heat.
