Chester Racing Tips (Thursday 7 May 2026)
Seven races take place on day two of Chester’s May Meeting, but you don’t have to wait long for Andrew’s best bet on the Roodee, as he has a selection in the 1.30pm race.
1.30 Chester – Roman Dragon (1pt each-way – 7-2 William Hill, Sky Bet, Paddy Power)
Since 2014, all 11 winners of this 5f Class 2 handicap were drawn in stall 5 or lower (ten of them in stall 4 or lower) and ten of the 11 winners came from the top six in the weights (those seventh or lower were just one from 41 in the study period). Last year’s winner Roman Dragon is well drawn in stall 3 and simply loves this track, recording form figures of 51124314841221542311 (7-20) for a profit of £26.99 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 3.82, A/E = 1.83). Three of the defeats came over 7f and if we only consider his Chester record over 5f-6f when drawn in stall 6 or lower his record becomes 511214412214311 (7-15) for a profit of £31.99. He’ll get a nice tow into the race from front-runners Seven Questions (stall 1) and Ruby’s Profit (stall 2). Dubai Bling (stall 4), a stablemate of the selection, also qualifies on the draw/weight angle and could be worth a saver.
Huntingdon Racing Tips (Thursday 7 May 2026)
Only six races are run at Huntingdon, with a 1.15pm start. Andrew opts to head to the 1.45pm contest for his best bet at the National Hunt fixture.
1.45 Huntingdon – William Cody (1pt win – 3/1 generally)
I’ve been waiting patiently for William Cody to return to Huntingdon for the first time since his course and distance success in November 2024 and finally he does. Pam Sly’s nine-year-old took his record on left-handed tracks to 0-19 when a close second at Wetherby last time but is four from 17 in today’s direction, including form figures of 11221 (3-5) in chases at Huntingdon, trading at odds of 1.03 and 1.1 in running for the two defeats.
Redcar Racing Tips (Thursday 7 May 2026)
There are a bumper eight races taking place at Redcar on Thursday evening, with Andrew having a solitary pick in the 6.50pm contest.
6.50 Redcar – Front Gunner (1pt win – 10/1 bet365)
Last year, Ivan Furtado went 0-34 at the first time of asking with horses he took over from other trainers, but he was four from 15 in 2024 (+£56.75 to a £1 level stake at SP) and he’s two from six so far in 2026 (+£4.38). Front Gunner makes his debut for in-form Furtado today after leaving Stephen Hanlon’s care and the change of scenery could produce a return to form. The son of Calyx went into my tracker after his best-of-the-closers 28-1 third at Catterick for Ann Duffield in the corresponding week last year and he won over today’s course and distance a couple of runs later. He made much of the running against the far side rail from stall 1 that day and has the same draw this time around. There’s a tailwind forecast, albeit not a strong one, and he could prove hard to catch.
Southwell Racing Tips (Thursday 7 May 2026)
It’s a 6.00pm start for Southwell’s all-weather fixture on Thursday evening and Andrew’s best bet is an each-way selection in the 7.00pm.
7.00 Southwell – Cosmic Man (0.5pt e/w – 9/1 bet365)
I wrote the following about Cosmic Man after his fourth place at Ayr last September…
“Cosmic Man, who beat only one home at Thirsk on his debut in mid-August, took a big step forward when a best-of-the-closers 25-1 fourth at Carlisle the following month and ran an interesting race in the 6f Weddings At Western House Hotel Maiden Stakes at Ayr last week. The Starman colt blew the start and was outpaced in rear before keeping on well close home to finish three and a half lengths behind the winner. Kevin Ryan’s juvenile is a half-brother to multiple all-weather winner Soldier’s Minute and, while early days for his sire, his progeny are showing a profit on synthetics (6-33, +£9.06 to a £1 level stake at SP).”
Since then, the profit for Starman progeny on the all-weather has become a loss but their strike-rate of 15% is superior to the turf runners (11.9%) and Cosmic Man, who will come on for his reappearance/first start after a gelding operation at Beverley, might be able to get off the mark tonight.
