13:30 – Allington Hughes Law Bicentenary Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap (Special Rider Conditions)

Race Details: 7f | Class 4 | Going: 6.0) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This is a proper Chester puzzle to start the card, with a tightly packed handicap and several arriving with something to prove. Lord Capulet brings the clearest recent form after a productive spell, while King’s School comes here on the back of a win and still looks on the upgrade. Paws For Thought is dangerous if bouncing back from a poor reappearance, and low-drawn Maxi Boy has obvious track-position appeal around here despite his advancing years. Spirit Genie is consistent enough to get involved, but stall 10 is no gift over this trip at Chester. In truth, it is not a deep Class 4, but it is a race where tactical speed, draw and a clean passage are likely to matter every bit as much as raw ability.

Top Selections

1. Lord Capulet – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr Henry Callan | Trainer: Kevin Ryan | Form: 130112 | Rating: 70 | Topspeed: 41

He is the one arriving in the best nick and, in a race where plenty have holes in their profile, that counts for plenty. Lord Capulet has won twice in his last four starts and was beaten only by a rival in form last time, so the recent figures are rock-solid for this grade. Stall 9 is not ideal at Chester, but he has shown enough tactical pace to suggest he need not be marooned out there, and Kevin Ryan’s runner still looks fairly treated off 70. At 7/2, he is not a giveaway, but he is the most solid option in a race full of ifs and buts. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Maxi Boy – 11/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr Eireann Cagney | Trainer: Fionn McSharry | Form: 23-884 | Rating: 71 | Topspeed: 55

The veteran is not the easiest horse to win with these days, but stall 1 at Chester makes him immediately interesting for each-way purposes. Maxi Boy shaped a bit better when fourth last time and this sharp 7f around a turning track could suit if he is allowed to boss the rail or sit handy from that inside gate. He is now down to 144, which gives him a fighting chance in this company, and the booking of Mr Eireann Cagney catches the eye in a race where track craft matters. At 11/1, he looks the value play to outrun his price and nick a place at the very least.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Lord Capulet is the percentage call and makes most appeal as the win bet on the strength of his current form. Maxi Boy is the each-way punt, with that inside draw giving him a much better chance than his odds suggest. The obvious dangers are King’s School, who is progressing, and Paws For Thought if able to leave his reappearance well behind.

14:02 – Juddmonte EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Bands B-D) (EBF Restricted Race Qual) (GBB/IRE Incentive)

Race Details: 6f | Class 2 | Going: 6.0) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This doesn’t look the deepest restricted novice for the grade, but it does have a fairly clear shape to it. Lady Branksome and Belardo Ace bring the standout pieces of form on ratings, both having finished second already, while Metamouse is another with enough debut promise to think there’s more to come from a good inside draw. Chester over 6f can be unforgiving for inexperienced juveniles, so track position and professionalism will matter as much as raw ability. The market has latched on to Lady Branksome, and rightly so, but she’s not bombproof around here from stall 7. Belardo Ace has to overcome a wide gate too, which opens the door for something at a price to hit the frame. Tricky enough beneath the favourite, but not an impossible race to solve.

Top Selections

1. Lady Branksome – 5/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Jason Hart | Trainer: Michael Bell | Form: 52 | Rating: 86 | Topspeed: 74

She sets the standard on what’s been shown so far and, in a race lacking depth, that counts for plenty. The key numbers are hard to ignore: an 86 rating and 74 topspeed already put her clear of most of these, and that runner-up effort last time was exactly the sort of novice form that usually wins a restricted event like this. Jason Hart is a positive booking at Chester where rhythm and decision-making matter, and if she breaks cleanly she should simply have too much class. At 5/4 she isn’t a gift, but she is the solid one and very much the one they all have to beat. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Metamouse – 6/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Hector Crouch | Trainer: David Loughnane | Form: 4 | Rating: 73 | Topspeed: 54

For an each-way angle, Metamouse makes plenty of appeal from stall 1. That fourth on debut was no disgrace, and more importantly it suggested the colt has enough gate speed and know-how to cope with a sharp track second time up. Chester can make life awkward for wide-drawn juveniles, so the rail berth is a real asset if Hector Crouch can hold a handy pitch. He doesn’t need to improve a stone to make the frame in this company, just a normal amount from first to second start. With 6/1 available, he looks the value play against the obvious pair at the top of the market. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it straightforward: Lady Branksome is the win play because her form and figures are already good enough for this. Metamouse is the each-way punt, helped by the inside draw and likely natural improvement from debut. Belardo Ace is the obvious danger if coping with stall 10, while Zambezi Shark is the unknown one who could easily be better than the market expects.

14:37 – Danny And Harriett Birthday Bash Handicap (GBBPlus Race)

Race Details: 1m 2f | Class 4 | Going: 6.0) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This is a tidy little 3yo handicap rather than a deep one, but it still looks competitive because several arrive with upside and Chester’s draw-and-position test can make life awkward. Morbeh and Silver State bring the standout ratings of 96 and are obvious starting points, while Home Hero has the ideal inside stall and a feather weight that makes him interesting around here. Asia Force has done little wrong in finishing second on all three starts, though stall 9 is no gift over this trip, and Simon Pierre is another improver after getting off the mark last time. In truth, this feels less about raw ability and more about who gets the run of the race at the right time. Chester handicaps often punish hesitation.

Top Selections

1. Morbeh – 11/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Cieren Fallon | Trainer: Roger Varian | Form: 5-1421 | Rating: 96 | Topspeed: 79

Morbeh looks the most solid answer. He arrives off a win, his profile is heading the right way, and an opening mark of 96 does not scream unfair for a colt from the Varian yard who still appears to be learning. Stall 4 is perfectly workable at Chester, especially for a horse who should be able to hold a handy position without being trapped wide, and Cieren Fallon is the right man for that sort of tactical job. Silver State is the obvious danger on figures, but Morbeh gets in here with just 126lb and still feels the one with a bit more to come. At 11/4, he’s hard to oppose.

Bet: WIN

2. Home Hero – 8/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Jason Hart | Trainer: Hugo Palmer | Form: 644-3 | Rating: 89 | Topspeed: 81

Home Hero makes plenty of each-way appeal from stall 1, and that alone matters a lot more at Chester than it would almost anywhere else. His reappearance third suggested he’s moving forward, he carries only 122lb, and Hugo Palmer’s runners at this track always demand a second look because the local angles tend to be well understood. He doesn’t have the sexy profile of Morbeh or the headline figures of Silver State, but he may not need to improve much to hit the frame if Jason Hart can boss the rail early. Available at 8/1, he looks a very fair each-way punt in a race where track position could be everything.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Morbeh is the win play because he brings the strongest recent form and still looks progressive from a handy draw. Home Hero is the each-way option thanks to stall 1, low weight and likely tactical advantage around Chester. Silver State is the danger on pure ability, while Asia Force has enough consistency to get involved if overcoming a poor gate.

15:12 – Allington Hughes Law Handicap (Div I)

Race Details: 7f | Class 4 | Going: 6.0) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a proper 3yo handicap rather than a gift for the favourite. Crazee Icon heads the market after a string of solid efforts, but stall 9 around Chester over 7f is no luxury and he may need to be a bit better than his mark to overcome it. Vidmiyr arrives in excellent nick after a win and a close second, while Norman Invasion has the profile of one still ahead of the assessor after just three starts. Cool Molly is respected despite a flat run last time, and Runswick shaped well enough on his return to suggest he can get involved. It is a competitive little heat where draw, track position and who handles Chester’s rhythm best could count for plenty.

Top Selections

1. Norman Invasion – 13/2 with Bet365

Jockey: George Downing | Trainer: Ed Walker | Form: 53-3 | Rating: 87 | Topspeed: 71

Norman Invasion appeals as the one with the most upside. He has only had three starts, posted solid novice form, and returned with a perfectly respectable third that should have sharpened him up nicely for this handicap debut. A mark of 87 does not look lenient on paper, but there is every chance he has more to come now tackling this sort of race, and stall 3 is a definite plus around here. Ed Walker’s horses usually know their job in these 3yo handicaps, and at 13/2 he looks a fair bit more interesting than some of the more exposed rivals. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Showcasing Star – 10/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Jack Callan | Trainer: Charlie Johnston | Form: 222 | Rating: 84 | Topspeed:

Showcasing Star is the each-way angle at the prices. Three runs, three seconds, and while that does suggest he has had chances, it also says he brings a dependable level of form into a race where a few have questions to answer. Charlie Johnston’s runners are often well suited by Chester if they can hold a position, and draw 2 gives him every chance of getting a handy sit from the outset. Opening life in handicaps off 84 looks workable enough, especially if this track brings out a bit more improvement. At 10/1, he looks the value play to hit the frame and possibly better. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Back Norman Invasion to win, with his unexposed profile and handy draw making him the most persuasive option. For an each-way punt, Showcasing Star makes plenty of appeal from stall 2 at double-figure odds. Crazee Icon is the obvious danger on raw form, while Vidmiyr is another who should be in the thick of it if coping with a wider berth.

15:47 – Allington Hughes Law Handicap (Div II)

Race Details: 7f | Class 4 | Going: 6.0) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly workable 3yo handicap rather than an especially deep one, and the market has latched onto the right filly in Miss Lady Grace. She arrives with the standout rating of 95, the best Topspeed figure in the field and the sort of profile that suggests she is still ahead of the assessor despite carrying only 123. Abundant is the obvious alternative after a solid return and has enough pace for this sharp 7f, while Master Of Entropy and The Resdev Scholar are the types who could get involved if the favourite underperforms. Chester can punish anything caught wide, so draw and tactical speed matter plenty, but this still looks a race where the classier, progressive types should dominate rather than a complete lottery.

Top Selections

1. Miss Lady Grace – 11/10 with Bet365

Jockey: Alexandra Egan | Trainer: Dan Horsford | Form: -21761 | Rating: 95 | Topspeed: 85

She is hard to oppose. That latest win put an exclamation mark on a progressive profile, and the bare numbers back it up too: she has the best mark in the race and the strongest Topspeed figure. In a handicap where several rivals look exposed or need to bounce back, Miss Lady Grace arrives as the one with genuine upward momentum. Stall 7 is not ideal around Chester, but she has shown enough ability to overcome a less-than-perfect setup if getting a sensible ride from Alexandra Egan. At 11/10 she is short enough, obviously, but still makes plenty of appeal because she sets the standard and may not have stopped improving yet. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Master Of Entropy – 17/2 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Jason Hart | Trainer: John & Sean Quinn | Form: 9-35 | Rating: 85 | Topspeed: 71

For an each-way play, Master Of Entropy looks the value against shorter-priced rivals. His form figures do not leap off the page, but that latest fifth was not a run to dismiss out of hand and he remains lightly raced enough to think there could be another step forward lurking. Jason Hart is a positive booking at this track, and draw 5 is perfectly workable if he can hold a handy position early. He does not need to improve dramatically to hit the frame in a nine-runner race of this nature, and 17/2 is a fair enough price for a colt with some upside compared to a few here who look more fully exposed. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Miss Lady Grace is the win bet because she brings the strongest recent form, the best figures and the most convincing progressive profile. Master Of Entropy makes more appeal as the each-way punt at 17/2, especially with a decent middle draw. Abundant is the obvious danger if building on his reappearance, while The Resdev Scholar has enough ability to nick a place if things fall right.

16:20 – Chester Fillies’ Handicap (GBBPlus Race)

Race Details: 1m 2f | Class 4 | Going: 6.0) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a proper little Chester handicap rather than a penalty kick, with a tight-knit bunch of fillies and mares where draw, track position and tactical sharpness will matter plenty. Quebella is easy to like from stall 1 around here, while Model Yuko also has the sort of profile to go well if ready after an absence. Star Cast arrives in the hottest recent form and has been admirably consistent, but she is now fully exposed and this track can punish anything less than a smooth passage. Patagonia Girl and Princess Rascal have ability but wider draws ask a question, and the 3yos Winged One and Tryst both get weight if good enough. Tricky enough, but not impossible to unpick.

Top Selections

1. Quebella – 3/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Jamie Spencer | Trainer: Owen Burrows | Form: 5364-3 | Rating: 89 | Topspeed: 81

Quebella makes plenty of appeal here. Her return to action when third suggested she has trained on, and that topspeed figure of 81 is right up there in this field. More importantly for this venue, she has stall 1, which is gold dust over this sort of trip if Spencer can hold a handy enough position. She has not been overbet at around 3/1, but that still feels fair given the combination of a good draw, solid mark and a yard that places them well. In a race where several rivals have either awkward stalls or something to prove, she looks the one with the fewest negatives. Bet: WIN

2. Winged One – 13/2 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Jason Watson | Trainer: Andrew Balding | Form: 91-58 | Rating: 86 | Topspeed: 55

Winged One is the each-way angle at the prices. She is a 3yo taking on older fillies, but that can be an asset in June handicaps and she gets in here with just 130. Her draw in stall 2 is another major plus at Chester, especially compared to some of the more obvious market players posted wider. The recent form figures do not scream certainty, though this is a trainer very capable of improving one with racing and the earlier win in her profile hints there is more to come. At 13/2 she does not need to be bombproof to make appeal, and she looks the sort who could travel well and nick a place at least. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Quebella is the win play: the inside draw, solid comeback run and reliable level of form make her hard to oppose. For an each-way punt, Winged One makes more sense than some of the shorter-priced older fillies given her weight pull and stall 2. Star Cast is the obvious danger on current form, while Model Yuko is respected if returning fully tuned up.

16:55 – Allington Hughes 200 Year Anniversary Celebrations Handicap

Race Details: 6f | Class 5 | Going: 6.0) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a tight little 3yo sprint rather than a deep one, and the draw is always part of the conversation over 6f at Chester. Explosive Finnish and Nebulon are the obvious pair to start with from stalls 2 and 1 respectively, both arriving in solid nick and both likely to get handy positions around these turns. Dolos Dream has done little wrong and comes here on the back of a win, but stall 7 asks a question, while Saucy Jane is consistent enough to get involved again without looking obviously ahead of the assessor. Tactical Blitz is not dismissed, though his latest run took the shine off him. It’s a race where track position and timing matter plenty, and the inside numbers could prove decisive.

Top Selections

1. Explosive Finnish – 5/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Joanna Mason | Trainer: Kevin & Lauren Frost | Form: 43-332 | Rating: 83 | Topspeed: 76

He’s been threatening to get his head back in front for a while now and this looks a very workable opening. The recent string of placed efforts suggests he’s holding his form well, and stall 2 is a major plus round Chester where getting a smooth early position is half the battle. A mark of 83 looks fair rather than punitive, and his Topspeed figure stacks up well in this field. Joanna Mason should be able to keep things uncomplicated from that berth, and at 5/2 he makes plenty of appeal in a race lacking loads of depth. He looks the solid one.

Bet: WIN

2. Nebulon – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Rowan Scott | Trainer: Michael Bell | Form: 6-232 | Rating: 79 | Topspeed: 74

Nebulon is the each-way angle because stall 1 is pure gold if he breaks on terms, and his recent form says he should be very competitive again. He’s been knocking on the door without quite landing the blow, but there’s no knock on his consistency and an opening mark of 79 still gives him room to be well treated. Michael Bell’s runner shapes like the type who will enjoy this sharp test if allowed to attack the rail, and in an eight-runner race that tactical edge matters enormously. Available at 7/2, he’s short enough to be respected but still perfectly fair for an each-way punt.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Explosive Finnish is the win play from a handy draw and arrives with the most convincing recent profile. Nebulon is the each-way option because stall 1 could make all the difference if he gets into rhythm early. Dolos Dream is the obvious danger despite a tricky berth, while Saucy Jane is another who can run well without being especially well treated.

17:28 – Tom Jones At Chester Racecourse Handicap

Race Details: 7f | Class 5 | Going: 6.0) (rail movements (Good to soft, good in places (goingstick) | | flat

This is a proper Chester handicap to finish with: tight draw bias, plenty of exposed older sprinters stretching to 7f, and a few in-form types trying to keep the ball rolling. Oman arrives off a win and is easy enough to see in the market, while Dapper Gee Gee has been admirably consistent and should be well suited by stall 3 around here. Coolree also commands respect after a productive spell, and Born A Rebel is one of the more interesting each-way angles from a low berth. It is not a deep race in quality for the grade, but it is certainly not straightforward either, because several of these are closely matched on ratings and tactical position from the gates could decide plenty in the first furlong.

Top Selections

1. Dapper Gee Gee – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Gina Mangan | Trainer: Tony Carroll | Form: -10412 | Rating: 83 | Topspeed: 71

He makes plenty of appeal in a race where track position should be everything. Dapper Gee Gee comes here in good heart after a win and a solid second, and stall 3 is exactly where you want to be at Chester over this trip. He is one of the few in the field arriving with genuinely progressive-looking recent form rather than just recycling the same level, and his topspeed figure stacks up well enough too. Tony Carroll runs two, but this one looks the sharper option given the draw and current rhythm. At 7/2 with Bet365, he is not a giveaway, but he still looks the likeliest winner if getting into the right early slot. Bet: WIN

2. Born A Rebel – 9/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Benoit De La Sayette | Trainer: Patrick Owens | Form: 164-72 | Rating: 79 | Topspeed: 70

This one makes plenty of each-way sense from stall 2. Born A Rebel shaped with promise when runner-up last time and is now 4lb lower than Dapper Gee Gee on official ratings, despite having a very workable profile for a race of this nature. The low draw is a major plus around here, and his topspeed mark of 70 suggests he still has enough pace to hold a handy position without getting lit up too soon. He is not the most obvious winner in the line-up, but at 9/1 with Paddy Power he looks the value play for those wanting something at a fairer price than the principals. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Dapper Gee Gee is the win play, chiefly because stall 3 and his current form make him the most solid option in a race full of small doubts. Born A Rebel is the each-way punt from another favourable low draw and looks overpriced for a horse coming off a good second. Oman is the obvious danger after winning last time, while Coolree also has enough recent form to get involved.
