Doncaster Racing Tips (Thursday 23 July 2026)
It’s a 2.10pm start at Doncaster, with Andrew’s sole selection lining up in the 4.48pm race.
4.48 Doncaster – Mariner (1pt e/w – 9/2 Unibet, 4/1 generally)
Mariner’s patient running style left him at a disadvantage at Nottingham last time where he finished best of the closers in third. I bet him that day – hoping/expecting a strong gallop as it was an apprentice riders’ race, but it didn’t transpire. The Jennie Candlish-trained five-year-old is very consistent in Class 6 company after a recent outing (28 days or sooner), recording form figures of 23126123 (2-8) and he should be thereabouts once again.
Newbury Racing Tips (Thursday 23 July 2026)
There’s a six-race card at Newbury this evening, with Andrew’s best bet of the night running in the 7.05pm race.
7.05 Newbury – Waistcoat (1pt win – 8/1 bet365, William Hill, Betfred, 15/2 generally)
Waistcoat could only finish tenth of 18 from a good draw at Ascot on his latest start but that run came in Class 4 company and the subsequent 75-day layoff suggests that he may have had a physical issue. Ross Burdon’s five-year-old has form figures over tonight’s 6f trip in Class 5 or lower company of 1811 (3-4) for a profit of £12.00 to a £1 level stake at SP, with the defeat excusable as he broke slowly and could never strike a blow behind an all-the-way winner. His stall 1 draw looks useful on recent evidence.
Yarmouth Racing Tips (Thursday 23 July 2026)
It’s a 5.04pm start at Yarmouth with their evening fixture. Andrew looks at the 7.24pm race for his best bet at the East Anglian track.
7.24 Yarmouth – Mr Bollinger (1pt win – 6/1 bet365, Betfred, 11/2 generally)
The Michael Bell-trained Mr Bollinger looked a future handicap project when finishing a 40-1 sixth in a 1m2f Nottingham novice contest on his debut in early April and his next two runs – a 14-1 fourth of eight at Lingfield (1m2f) and a 100-1 eighth of 11 at Nottingham – did nothing to dispel that theory. I had expected improvement when he made his handicap debut at Nottingham in June, but he never got involved after blowing the start in first-time cheekpieces, finishing fourth of the five runners. His trainer has a very poor record when using first-time cheekpieces (six wins from 96 runners since 2010, -£56.30 at SP, expected wins = 14.63, A/E = 0.41) and he’s worth another chance over this longer trip now that the headgear is left off.
