It’s Betfred Oaks day at Epsom Downs on Friday 5 June. The main event takes place at 4pm, but there’s a superb card throughout the afternoon. Our in-house tipster Steve Chambers previews the action and picks out his best Epsom racing tips for the day. These four selections make up the GG Lucky 15 for Friday.
Epsom Racing Tips (Friday 5th June 2026)
Eight races feature on Oaks day at Epsom, with a 1.30pm start. Steve picks out his best bets for the day, where has a selection for the Group 1 Fillies’ Classic at 4pm.
2.05 Epsom – Possessive (1pt win – 7/2)
Karl Burke’s Possessive showed greenness when winning at York on debut, but the Lucky Vega colt could be a potential smart performer and can land the Woodcote Stakes at 2.05pm. He quickened away nicely on the Knavesmire to win by a lenght and could improve again. The form is yet to be tested, but Burke should bring him on significantly from that to land back-to-back wins. The likes of Hickory Lad, Wild Terrain and Alpe D’Huez will be notable rivals here. However, Possessive looks an exciting youngster and he can maintain his 100% record.
2.40 Epsom – Skukuza (1pt win – 12/1)
A winner of this race 12 months ago, Persica is certainly the one to beat, as he looks to make it three wins from three starts at Epsom. However, one that could run a huge race at a tasty price is Skukuza for Ed Dunlop. He’s not tasted victory since winning a listed event at the Curragh just under a year ago, but he is very smart on his day. Last of six in the Earl Of Sefton, he’s sure to improve for that effort. Third in a French Group 2 on good to soft ground, the Blue Point horse has to be respected, if repeating that effort. Ryan Moore will take the ride here, so that’s another huge positive.
3.15 Epsom – Respond (1pt win – 11/2)
A rampant four-and-three-quarter length winner at Chester last in May, Respond will have to contend with a whopping 9lbs hike in the 3.15pm event. However, Andrew Balding’s charge could be still tough to beat off 105. He’s been handed stall 15 here, which isn’t ideal for a horse that likes to be prominent. Nevertheless, it could just prove that he’s a potential Group horse in a handicap here and his class will take him to the fore. Oisin Murphy will have his work cut out during the early stages, but if he can gain a positive position then he could well dominate from a long way out.
4.00 Epsom – Amelia Earhart (1pt win – 9/4)
With such an incredible record in the race, Aidan O’Brien (11 previous wins) is not a man to ignore. He has three runners in the Betfred Oaks at 4pm, but Amelia Earhart looks to be the main challenger. A fine winner of the Cheshire Oaks, where she beat I’m The One impressively, she is one that has huge improvement to come. In what is a mediocre renewal, she looks the one that could be a genuine Group 1 horses this campaign and she can land another Classic prize for Ballydoyle
