Andrew Mount focuses on a superb day’s racing at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday 29th July, as the meeting swiftly moves on to day two. Our top tipster has four tips across the card, which includes an eye-catching 2pt win selection.
Glorious Goodwood Racing Tips (Wednesday 29 July 2026)
It’s a seven race card at Goodwood, with the action kicking off at 1.50pm. The Group 1 Sussex Stakes is the feature race of the day at 4.10pm.
1.50 Goodwood – Hatteen (1.5pt win – 9/4 generally)
Hatteen’s runner-up effort to Point Of Law in a 1m2f Newbury maiden has been franked by the winner, who went on to finish a close-up fourth in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot before his Group 3 Bahrain Trophy Stakes at Newmarket. Third-placed Glory Road scored at the next time of asking, as his Hatteen himself who bolted up in a 1m4f Class 2 novice stakes at Doncaster.
That performance was backed up by the clock and Andrew Balding has a good recent record with colts on their handicap debuts, scoring with 40 of the 187 qualifiers since the beginning of 2021 (21.4% strike-rate) for a profit of £90.62 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£140.22 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 32.56, A/E = 1.23). His opening handicap mark of 88 could be on the generous side – his Newbury conqueror Point Of Law is now rated 107 – and fast ground won’t be an issue.
2.25 Goodwood – Wild Blossom (2pt win – 6/4 William Hill, 11/8 generally)
The Karl Burke-trained Wild Blossom bolted up by ten lengths on her debut at Carlisle in May – the same race in which stablemate Venetia Sun was introduced in 2025 – and her subsequent four-and-a-half length tenth of 27 in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot was better than it looked as she was drawn low and did third best of her group.
The low-drawn runners from that Group 2 contest have boosted the form – two-length runner-up Senorita Bonita landed the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes on her next start and 16th-palced Kentucky Rain hacked up at Beverley, albeit at prhobisitive odds. Since 2015, simply backing low-drawn (stall 1 through 12) Queen Mary runners at the next time of asking would haver found 36 winners from 122 bets (29.5% strike-rate) for a profit of £21.60 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£42.11 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 26.76, A/E = 1.35) and she’s going to take some stopping. Envision was also badly berthed when down the field in the Queen Mary and is worth a saver at a massive price.
3.35 Goodwood – El Floridita (0.5 pt each-way – 7/1 William Hill, 13/2 generally. Sky Bet are paying four places but only go 11/2)
Followers of this column enjoyed a healthy place return when my 1pt each-way section Pershaada (50/1 advised) ran fourth in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, but she was well drawn towards the stands’ side rail and looks too short in the betting for today’s Molecomb Stakes (3/1 at the time of writing). I’d rather side with Norfolk Stakes runner-up El Floridita, who fared best of the centre group when 150/1 for that Royal Ascot contest.
Those low-drawn Norfolk runners to return to the track since have boosted the form – 40/1 eighth Agamenon did best of those drawn high when a 16/1 third in a Newbury listed race, 13th-placed Star Prospect emerged best of the closers when third at Cork, while 14th-placed Tribeca found only one too good when 17/2 for the Group 2 Railway Stakes at the Curragh. I’d have preferred a higher draw than stall 3 but he’s still worth an each-way bet.
5.00 Goodwood – French Affair (0.5pt e/w – 12/1 generally)
Jennie Candlish’s latest stable switcher to run on the Flat was a 10/1 winner at Chester and French Affair, ex-Richard Hannon, might be able to follow suit. This sometimes-keen sort has been struggling to see out the 7f trip in the majority of his runs since gelded but his two runs at today’s 6f distance since he underwent the operation produced a Newbury nursery win and a third place when poorly drawn at Ffos Las. The booking of Billy Loughnane catches the eye and his middle draw in stall 15 looks fine on yesterday’s evidence.
