Andrew Mount heads to day three of Glorious Goodwood and day four of the Galway Festival for his best bets on Thursday 30th July. Having bagged a 2pt winner on Wednesday, our top tipster is back with three selections for Thursday’s racing.
Glorious Goodwood Racing Tips (Thursday 30 July 2026)
A bumper eight-race card takes place at Goodwood on Thursday, with the action kicking off at 1.50pm. Andrew has a selection in the opener and also a big-priced pick in the 4.45pm race.
1.50 Goodwood – Decade Of Time (1pt each-way – 5/1 generally, four places)
Those runners representing Irish sires who contested a Class 2 handicap last time out are eight from 29 across the past 11 renewals of the Kincsem Heritage Handicap and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £32.00 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£39.16 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 2.89, A/E = 2.77).
There are only four qualifiers today – Bourbon Blues, Dial Me In, Harmonics and Decade Of Time, with strong preference for the last-named. Jack Channon’s colt has form figures of 3112 (2-4), with the first defeat at 40-1 in a field of 25 at Newbury on his debut and the latest in a 1m2f handicap on Newmarket’s July Course where he did a little too much too soon in a race run to suit the closers.
Today’s bigger field and likely stronger pace will suit and Tom Marquand, who takes over from George Bass, is a good booking.
4.45 Goodwood – Primal (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 generally, five places)
As discussed prior to Hatteen’s narrow second in Goodwood’s opener on Wednesday, Andrew Balding has a solid recent record with colts on their handicap debuts. Since 2021, the two-year-old qualifiers are nine from 35 for a profit of £15.29 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£21.69 t Betfair SP after comm, expected wins = 5.53, A/E = 1.63) and Primal looks worth a punt in this 7f nursery.
The son of Starspangledbanner might need gelding before he gets his head in front, but he failed to settle when a 22-1 eighth of 12 over a straight 7f at Newbury last time and a big field/strong pace scenario could prove to be ideal. He’s well drawn in stall 5.
Galway Racing Tips (Thursday 30 July 2026)
It’s a 2.10pm start at Galway, with eight races on the card. Andrew has a 1.5pt win selection in the 2.45pm contest.
2.45 Galway – Meriden (1.5pt win – 3/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, 11/4 generally)
This 7f Listed race for fillies/mares has not been a good race for hold-up horses with just one of the last ten winners (from 65 runners) coming from off the pace. That winner was 10-1 shot Surrounding (2022) in a strange renewal – one of the front-runners unseated her rider and the rest of the pace horses were hampered.
Eight of the last ten winners were drawn in stall 4 or lower and backing all 40 qualifiers returned a profit of £25.83 at SP. Meriden has had an incredible season, rising from 57 to 103 in the official ratings after five straight wins with the latest one coming in a similar race to today’s. She was always prominent that day and has the advantage of stall 2 of 10.
