Andrew Mount is back with his best bets as the Qatar Goodwood Festival begins on Tuesday 28 July 2026 whilst the Galway Festival heads into it’s second day of action. With top-class fields and competitive racing on both sides of the Irish Sea, our tipster has picked out the horses he thinks are worth backing today.
Goodwood Racing Tips (Tuesday 28 July 2026)
Andrew has two selections – both at nice prices – for the opening day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.
4.10 Goodwood – Tattersall (1pt win – 16/1 Coral, Ladbrokes, 14/1 generally)
Tatterstall was only fifth on Newmarket’s July Course last time, but he raced on the stands’ side when all the action was down the centre, doing second best of his group. Bang in-form Michael Dods, based in Yorkshire, does well with his long travellers, especially over the shorter trips. Those racing over 5f-7f who travelled 200+ miles to the track are 34 from 203 this century (17% strike-rate) for a profit of £101.53 to a £1 level stake at SP. The son of Bungle Inthejungle won this race in 2024 on his only previous course visit. He’s also 1-1 at Epsom and clearly enjoys an away-day on a quirky track.
5.55 Goodwood – Gold Digger (1pt win – 10/1 bet365, William Hill 9/1 generally)
Gold Digger can be forgiven her 9-2 ninth of 27 in the Palace Of Holyrood House Stakes at Royal Ascot as she was poorly drawn in stall 10 and raced keenly down the centre of the track when all the action was stands’ side. The similarly badly-berthed fourth Calico Blue (stall 9) and 11th Tricky Tel (stall 15) have since finished one-two at Chester and Richard Spencer’s three-year-old can be forgiven her subsequent 12-1 sixth to Rumstar in Group 3 company at Sandown and will be happier back in fillies-only grade. Her three runs against her own sex produced two wins and a sixth of 17 to Venetia Sun in last season’s Albany Stakes. Both wins came over today’s 6f trip and the first-time cheekpieces could bring about improvement.
Galway Racing Tips (Tuesday 28 July 2026)
Andrew is backing a British raider in this Premier Handicap at Galway.
6.45 Galway – Lir Speciale (0.5pt e/w – 12/1 generally)
Brian Ellison has done well with his runners in Ireland this century, scoring with nine of his 76 runners (11.8% strike-rate) for a profit of £2.25 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£22.79 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 6.08, A/E = 1.48). Five of the winners came at Galway and Lir Speciale can be backed in this extended mile handicap now that ground conditions are on the easy side of good. The seven-year-old fared best of the late closers when fifth of 17 at York last time and there should be enough pace on to set things up for him.
