Glorious Goodwood Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Saturday 1 August

We enter the final day of Glorious Goodwood on Saturday, with seven more races taking place at the Sussex track. The Stewards’ Cup is the highlight, but there is high class action across the card.

Andrew Mount sticks to the action at Goodwood for his best bets on Saturday. He has four selections for you to follow.

Glorious Goodwood Racing Tips (Saturday 1 August 2026)

The Goodwood Festival comes to a close on Saturday, with the big-field handicap, the Stewards’ Cup, the centrepiece of the final day. Andrew has two tips in the race, as well as two others later on the card.

3.35 Goodwood – Sondad (1pt e/w – 12/1 general) & Get It (0.5pt e/w – 20/1 Ladbrokes, 18/1 Coral, Bet365, William Hill)

Sondad has form figures of 12113191 (5-8) when racing over 6f-6.5f after a recent run (1-28 days) and looks a solid each-way play from a handy-looking draw (stall 21) in the Stewards’ Cup. Mick and David Easterby’s five-year-old justified strong support in the 6.5f Scurry Handicap at the Curragh last time, beating Dark Thirty by half a length (pair three lengths clear). He’s drawn near pace angle Get It and, though yet to race here, this dual Epsom winner shouldn’t have an issue with the undulating track.

The aforementioned Get It, winner of this race in 2024 and successful in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot the following year, is worth a bet despite the absence since last September. The eight-year-old has plenty of form when fresh, winning at Ascot last spring on his first 2025 UK start after a spell in Bahrain and was successful at the first time of asking in Britain at Windsor in 2024 after another Bahrain campaign. His seasonal debuts in 2022 and 2021 produced victories (5f on good to soft ground was no help on his 2023 comeback) and trainer George Baker is in fine form.

15:35 Coral Stewards’ Cup (Heritage Handicap)

4.45 Goodwood – Regency Royal (1pt win – 15/2 bet365, 7/1 general)

Andrew Balding’s Regency Royal has a tricky draw in stall 10, but his trainer has a good record in this race, with those who started at 10/1 or shorter returning form figures of 241113 (3-6). The son of Calyx was well drawn in stall 2 at Chester when making his debut last month but blew the start and ran green, doing well to get within two lengths of all-the-way winner Towelontheterrace. Balding does well with his second time out juveniles, with the colts who were beaten on their debuts landing 97 of their 510 starts (19% strike-rate) for a profit of £174.60 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£405.44 at Betfair SP after 2% commission< expected wins = 83.37, A/E = 1.16).

16:45 British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (Colts And Geldings Only)

5.20 Goodwood – Great Chieftain (0.5pt e/w – 20/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, both five places, 18/1 general)

Great Chieftain needed the run when last of four at Lingfield on July 15th – his first for two months – and looks very interesting in this 1m1f Class 3 handicap with that effort behind him. Oliver Cole’s five-year-old is best on turf below Class 2 level when he’s had a recent outing (with the past 28 days). His record under these conditions stands at 52121111 (5-8) for a profit of £34.75 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£45.56 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 1.15, A/E = 4.34). His most recent outing under these conditions produced a Haydock win off a mark of 89 and he runs off 85 today. Fast ground suits and he’s worth chancing to small stakes despite his high draw.
