Haydock & Ascot Racing Tips - Steve Chambers' Lucky 15 Tips for Friday 4th September

Two premier tracks will showcase some quality racing on Friday 4th September, as Haydock and Ascot both provide competitive action on the level. Steve Chambers previews both meetings here and picks out his best bets at both fixtures, which can make up the GG Lucky 15 for the day.

Haydock Tips (Friday 4th September 2026)

It’s Sprint Cup day at Haydock on Saturday, but on Friday there’s quality action in its own right. The action kicks off at 1.30pm and concludes at 4.53pm. Here are the best bets across the seven-race card.

1.30 Haydock – Gentle Warrior (1pt win – 13/2)

Karl Burke’s Gentle Warrior won this opening Apprentice Handicap in impressive fashion 12 months ago, and the four-year-old is back to try and reign supreme once again. He’s been struggling for form of late, but that has seen his mark drop significantly in recent outings. This means he’s only 2lbs higher than last year’s winning mark, so has to be respected. Toby Moore takes the ride, which is a huge positive, and if the return to Haydock can work then he’s sure to be a leading contender once again.

3.15 Haydock – Milford (1pt win – 6/1)

Having struggled off marks in the mid to high 90s, Milford has gradually been tumbling down the handicap. Julie Camacho’s charge, however, ran his best race for a while last time out at Hamilton, when dropped in class. He contests that same Class 4 company on Friday in the 3.15pm at Haydock. He’s been given a 2lbs rise back to 89, but with Tom Kiely-Marshall taking 5lbs off his back then he looks to stand a huge chance in this 6f contest. He will carry top weight, but a repeat of that Hamilton run should see him on the scene.

3.47 Haydock – Secret Mistral (1pt win – 15/2)

A hugely competitive 5f sprint handicap takes place at 3.47pm, with several in with a chance. Tony Carroll’s Secret Mistral is a former course-and-distance winner, and if he can replicate a win at Chester earlier in the season then he has to be a key figure. He’s 6lbs higher here, but has been running creditably off his new mark, so has to warrant respect. With some smart efforts at Haydock, he’s one that could well be a notable player in this event, and could be the value play.

Ascot Tips (Friday 4th September 2026)

Ascot’s seven-race card kicks off at 1.55pm, with the action going on until 5.25pm. We have a solitary selection to complete the Lucky 15 in the 4.48pm race.

4.48 Ascot – Spanish Voice (1pt win – 17/2)

Andrew Balding’s Spanish Voice has already tasted victory twice over a mile this season and the Lope De Vega colt can land another notable pot in the 4.48pm at Ascot. Both those wins came at Newmarket, but he showed when third behind Hickory at Ascot last time out that he’s capable of figuring elsewhere. He will do battle with Hickory again in this event, but is better off at the weights this time around, so looks more than capable of reversing that form and grabbing the win.
