Haydock Racing Tips (Thursday 21 May 2026)

Two tips in class 4 company are the order of the day at Haydock for Andrew. One of his two best bets runs in the final race at the venue on Thursday.

3.00 Haydock – Prima Bailarina (1pt win – 6-1 bet365)

Prima Bailarina caught the eye when a 16-1 fourth in a 7f novice contest on good to soft ground at Redcar last backend, going down by less than four lengths and doing best of those to come from off the pace. It’s possible that her subsequent Newcastle fourth (6-4 favourite) came too soon or she may have simply been unsuited by the Tapeta surface. The daughter of Cracksman is bred to appreciate the deep ground (officially soft, heavy in places) and trainer Ed Walker has a fine recent record at Haydock, scoring with 22 of his 95 runners since the beginning of 2023 for a profit of £80.61 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 16.42, A/E = 1.34). In May only, the score was eight from 24 for a profit of £87.89.

5.13 Haydock – Trilby (1pt win – 9/4 bet365)

Trilby’s latest win came on officially good ground at Beverley last spring, but he’s best known as a mudlark and can take advantage of his sliding handicap mark (7lb below his last winning rating). He encounters deep ground for the first time since his fourth of 12 in a Class 2 handicap at Doncaster last backend and runs in a Class 4 contest here. Trainer Sam England has been in good form of late, scoring with four of her 20 rummers in the past fortnight including thee of the last five (12-1, 11-1 and 9-2). A bigger field would have been preferable given his liking for a strong gallop but main market rival Wheels OF Fire should ensure that this race is not run at a dawdle.

Catterick Racing Tips (Thursday 21 May 2026)

Andrew’s sole selection at Catterick is a horse who went into the tracker early in the season and runs in the penultimate race.

4.50 Catterick – Filey Beach (1pt win – 7/4 bet365)

Filey Beach went into the tracker after his fourth at Musselburgh last month on his second start for Ruth Carr where he got into a three-way battle for the early lead. The other two pacesetters dropped away to finish well beaten and his two-and-three-quarters length defeat was a cracking effort in the circumstances. The five-year-old’s wide draw was enough to put me off tipping him when he lined up over 7f at Catterick next time, but he won well at odds of 9-1 and has only gone up 5lb to a mark of 59. Stall 2 looks useful and his yard’s last-time out winners have a good recent record when bidding to follow up, landing 38 of their 210 starts since the beginning of 2022 for a profit of £31.08 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 29.16, A/E = 1.30).
