Haydock Racing Tips (Saturday 25 April 2026)
Haydock’s is the first British flat meeting to get underway on Saturday. Andrew’s selections run in the second and third contests.
2.00 Haydock – Forbidden Colours (1pt win – 11/2 bet365)
Ed Walker does well on turf in the early months of the season (March to June) with his young horses (two or three-year-olds) who were not making their racecourse debuts, scoring with 71 of the 306 qualifiers (23.2% strike-rate) since the beginning of 2021 for a huge profit of £188.41 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£281.90 at Betfair SP after 2% commission) and that was before 9-1 shot Black Star Boy won the 1.20 at Sandown yesterday (at the time of writing he also had Felicitas to come in the 4.10 at Sandown). The trainer also has a great recent record at Haydock and Forbidden Colours, too green to do herself justice when a highly respectable best-of-the-closers fourth to Mubasimah at Newmarket on her debut last autumn, didn’t seem happy on Chelmsford’s Polytrack when beaten at short odds on last month’s return to action and is worth chancing to get off the mark.
2.35 Haydock – Khafiz (1pt win – 5/1 bet365, 9/2 generally)
Khafiz is a qualifier on the ‘Ed Bethell stable switchers on turf’ system, which was 12 from 27 (+£23.70 to a £1 level stake at SP) prior to Masaban’s run in the 4.35 at Doncaster yesterday. The son of New Bay, ex-Roger Varian, wasn’t beaten by far when third at Doncaster on his final outing last term and was a winner on his seasonal return last May.
Leicester Racing Tips (Saturday 25 April 2026)
Andrew’s tip at Leicester runs in the feature contest, the King Richard III Handicap.
2.05 Leicester – Zoulu Chief (1pt each-way – 7/1 Coral, Ladbrokes, both paying four places)
Pace and draw are the key ingredients on the straight course (5f-7f) at Leicester and this 6f Class 2 handicap was dominated by low draws last year, with stall beating stall 3 into second and stall 4 running fourth. The winner, Completely Random, came from off the pace that day but was very well handciapped – he ran off just 92 and is now rated 109. There’s not a huge amount of early pace in today’s line-up and Heather Main’s Zoulu Chief is worth a bet to make all under Billy Loughnane. The five-year-old has form figures of 23213 (1-5) since gelded, doing too much too soon (“prominent, went second inside final furlong”) when third to Completely Random (“dwelt start, in rear”) and Bolo Neighs (“dwelt start, towards rear”) on Lingfield’s Polytrack last time. Fourth-placed Justcallmepete (“pressed leader”) was also unsuited by racing up with the pace and he won at Bath on his recent turf return, while fifth-placed Dryholaey (“led narrowly or disputed the lead”) has scored twice since. I’ve saved on Strike Red, runner-up in both starts here and will also play him in a forecast with the selection.
Doncaster Racing Tips (Saturday 25 April 2026)

7.45 Doncaster – Mariner (1pt win – )
Mariner needed last month’s comeback outing when a five-length eighth of 11 at Wolverhampton and will also improve for his 18-1 seventh of 13 at Thirsk on April 10th where he was beaten by less than four lengths. Jennie Candlish has her string in fine form, and the five-year-old son of Kingman will appreciate the return to Class 6 company in this 1m round-course handicap. He won this race last year when it was run over the straight mile – the last time he ran in a Class 6 contest – and his prominent running style was massively favoured here yesterday. His full record in Class 6 races stands at 22031261 (2-8), improving to 231261 (2-6) when returned to the track within four weeks of his latest outing.
