17:25 – Unibet More Extra Place Races Apprentice Handicap

Race Details: 1m | Class 5 | Going: Standard to slow (watering) (Polytrack) | | flat

This is a proper apprentice handicap puzzle rather than a race to get carried away about, with plenty arriving in fair nick but not many looking bombproof. Valentine Boy comes here on the back of a win and is entitled to plenty of respect, while U S S Constitution has slipped to a very workable racing weight and should be a big player from a low draw. Kit Gabriel has been knocking on the door without always looking straightforward, and Joseph is another last-time-out winner, though stall 13 asks a question. Tex, Goldie Trickett and Penfolds Grange all have bits of form that put them in the argument too. In a crowded 14-runner mile around Kempton, draw, rhythm and getting a sensible trip are likely to matter just as much as raw ability.

Top Selections

1. U S S Constitution – 5/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Ashley Lewis | Trainer: Ed Walker | Form: 70-135 | Rating: 81 | Topspeed: 46

He looks the percentage call. U S S Constitution is now 1lb lower than when winning earlier in the year and his latest fifth does not read badly in the context of this race. Drawn in 2 and carrying only 130, he should get a much kinder run than some of his market rivals posted wider out, and that matters in these messy Kempton handicaps. Ed Walker’s runner has enough class for a race of this nature and, while he is not thrown in, he makes much more appeal than some with less compelling recent profiles at similar prices. Available at 5/1, he looks solid rather than flashy, which is often the right angle in this sort of contest.

Bet: WIN

2. Goldie Trickett – 10/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Alexandra Egan | Trainer: Jane Chapple-Hyam | Form: 435-35 | Rating: 79 | Topspeed: 66

Goldie Trickett makes plenty of each-way sense at the prices. She is not arriving here off the back of a flashy run, but her profile is steadier than the market suggests and a mark of 79 gives her every chance of being competitive in a Class 5 of this depth. The draw in 4 is a help, and that Topspeed figure of 66 is perfectly respectable against these. Jane Chapple-Hyam’s filly has been holding her form without getting her head in front, which is exactly why she appeals as an each-way punt rather than a win-only leap of faith. At 10/1, she looks one of the more sensible alternatives to the obvious ones.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

U S S Constitution is the win play from a handy draw and a very manageable weight, and he looks the safest option in a race full of ifs and buts. Goldie Trickett is the each-way alternative at double-figure odds, with her low berth and consistent level of form giving her a fair chance of hitting the four places. Main dangers are Valentine Boy, Kit Gabriel and the wide-drawn Joseph.

18:00 – Try Unibet’s New Improved Acca Boosts Fillies’ Novice Stakes (GBB Race)

Race Details: 6f | Class 4 | Going: Standard to slow (watering) (Polytrack) | | flat

This looks a compact but quite informative fillies’ novice, with the market understandably centring on the only runner to have shown useful form already. Phalanx Nation brings the standout piece of evidence after finishing third on debut and setting a clear standard on her 82 rating, while Moonrise heads the newcomers for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy, which is never a combination to dismiss lightly at this venue. Wise And Wonderful gives that yard a second string, and Esha’A represents Owen Burrows in what feels a race where stable confidence could matter. Iris Olivia has already had a go and was well held, while Alice Rocks may need to know more. In truth, it is not a deep race, but it is a tricky enough little puzzle behind the favourite.

Top Selections

1. Phalanx Nation – 6/4 with Betfair

Jockey: Luke Morris | Trainer: Archie Watson | Form: 3 | Rating: 82 | Topspeed:

Phalanx Nation is the obvious one, but sometimes the obvious answer is the right one. She has the only piece of solid juvenile form on the page after a debut third and that 82 mark sets a decent standard in a race where most of the opposition are guessing games. Archie Watson knows how to ready a sharp 2yo, and Kempton’s 6f should suit a filly who has already shown she can cope with the job on the track. At 6/4 she is hardly a giveaway, but she does hold strong claims if simply taking the normal second-step forward from debut. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Wise And Wonderful – 12/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Rob Hornby | Trainer: Andrew Balding | Form: | Rating: | Topspeed:

If you want to play against the short one for a bit of value, Wise And Wonderful makes more appeal than some of the other unraced fillies. She is from a yard more than capable of landing this sort of novice and, while Moonrise has the bigger jockey booking, Balding’s supposed second strings often run a lot better than the market expects. In a six-runner race you do not need many to disappoint to hit the frame, and 12/1 looks big enough for a filly from this stable on debut. She is the one who appeals most as the each-way punt. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple: Phalanx Nation is the win bet because she has the best form and the clearest standard to aim at. For a bit of value, Wise And Wonderful is the each-way alternative at a double-figure price in a small field. Moonrise is the obvious danger among the newcomers, especially with Oisin Murphy booked.

18:30 – Try Unibet’s New Smartview Racecards Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div I)

Race Details: 7f | Class 4 | Going: Standard to slow (watering) (Polytrack) | | flat

This looks a fairly informative novice rather than a throwaway midweek affair, with the market understandably centred on Erudition after two solid efforts and the best official mark in the line-up. Makerstoun is the obvious one to give him most to think about, having stepped forward from debut to finish second and bringing a useful Topspeed figure with him. Beyond the front pair, it gets more speculative. Khaleejy arrives unbeaten but did that in a small-field contest as a 5yo and now concedes weight all round, while Distant Moon and Slalom are the types who could improve sharply with experience. In truth, the race should be decided by which of the principals finds a bit more for seven furlongs, and Erudition sets the standard.

Top Selections

1. Erudition – 8/11 with Betfair

Jockey: Billy Loughnane | Trainer: George Boughey | Form: 32 | Rating: 84 | Topspeed:

Erudition is hard to oppose. He has already shown a level of form that sets the bar here, finishing third on debut before improving again to go down only narrowly when second last time. An official mark of 84 is comfortably the best on offer among the 3yos and, in a race where several still have plenty to prove, that matters. George Boughey does very well with this type and Billy Loughnane is exactly the rider you want on a prominent, uncomplicated novice around Kempton. At 8/11 he is no hidden gem, but he still looks the most likely winner if reproducing either of his first two runs. Bet: WIN

2. Distant Moon – 12/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Sean D Bowen | Trainer: Saeed bin Suroor | Form: 2 | Rating: 75 | Topspeed:

Distant Moon appeals as the each-way play at double-figure odds. He shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up on debut and a mark of 75 gives him a realistic platform in this company without leaving him looking exposed. Saeed bin Suroor is not one to overface them early, so the fact this one showed ability straight away is worth noting, and there should be more to come now he has a run under his belt. Drawn 7, he may need a sensible ride from Sean D Bowen, but this doesn’t look stacked with depth behind the favourite. Available at 12/1, he looks the value each-way against the obvious pair. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it straightforward: Erudition is the win bet because his two runs set the clearest standard and he looks the most professional horse in the field. For an each-way punt, Distant Moon makes more appeal than the shorter-priced alternatives, especially with scope to improve from debut. Makerstoun is the obvious danger to the favourite, while Khaleejy is respected but asked a stiffer question under his penalty.

19:00 – Try Unibet’s New Smartview Racecards Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div II)

Race Details: 7f | Class 4 | Going: Standard to slow (watering) (Polytrack) | | flat

This looks a useful enough novice for the grade, with a couple bringing solid placed form and plenty of the opposition open to plenty of improvement on debut. Storming Point sets the standard on what he achieved when runner-up on his sole start, while Masked Warrior has the most substance in the book after three runs and should come forward for his reappearance. Conspiracist is respected on connections alone, and newcomers from Roger Varian and Saeed bin Suroor are never easily dismissed around Kempton, but this still feels a race likely to be decided by those who have already shown they can handle the job. In truth, it is not a deep contest, but there are enough unknowns among the once-raced and unraced types to make it a mildly tricky puzzle rather than a penalty kick.

Top Selections

1. Storming Point – 9/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Ryan Moore | Trainer: Gary & Josh Moore | Form: 2- | Rating: 86 | Topspeed:

He is the obvious starting point. A mark of 86 after just one run tells its own story, and that debut second suggests there is a fair bit more to come now he returns as a three-year-old. Ryan Moore being booked only strengthens the case, and in a race where several opponents are guessing games, Storming Point already has the most persuasive single piece of form on the table. The slight niggle is the layoff, but this yard can ready one and 9/4 looks perfectly fair rather than cramped given the standard he has already reached. He holds strong claims of going one better.

Bet: WIN

2. Masked Warrior – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Tom Marquand | Trainer: William Haggas | Form: 32-5 | Rating: 88 | Topspeed:

For an each-way play, Masked Warrior makes plenty of appeal. He has the highest rating in the field on 88 and his juvenile efforts, when placed twice, give him a very solid platform in this company. His fifth on return was not spectacular, but it was hardly disastrous either, and William Haggas runners often strip fitter for a run. Tom Marquand takes over and this step back into a novice of this nature could be the right move. At 4/1 he is not exactly hidden, but with three places on offer he still looks the value each-way against less exposed but less proven rivals.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Storming Point is the win bet because he brings the cleanest piece of form and looks the one they all have to beat if returning in the same nick. Masked Warrior is the each-way option, with his 88 rating and stronger body of work giving him a dependable profile for the frame. The main danger is Conspiracist, while market support for Back At One or Olympic Anthem would also be worth noting.

19:30 – Unibet Novice Stakes (GBB/GBBPlus Race)

Race Details: 1m 2f | Class 3 | Going: Standard to slow (watering) (Polytrack) | | flat

This revolves around Water To Wine, and there is no point pretending otherwise. The Gosden colt made a striking winning debut and already sets a clear standard on a 92 rating, which is miles clear of anything with established form in here. The question is less whether he is the most likely winner and more whether anything can make a race of it. Stablemate Humphrey is the interesting unknown, while White Storm is another debutant from a powerful yard who could easily know his job. Of those with experience, Take A Chill Pill and Tripoli Flyer look the likeliest to pick up the pieces. It is not the deepest novice you’ll see at this level, but there are enough unexposed types lurking to make the place betting more interesting than the win market.

Top Selections

1. Water To Wine – 1/3 with Betfair

Jockey: Ryan Moore | Trainer: John & Thady Gosden | Form: 1 | Rating: 92 | Topspeed:

He looked a proper prospect when winning first time up and the bare figures tell the same story: a mark of 92 after one run puts him well clear of this field. Drawn in stall 1 over this trip at Kempton, Ryan Moore should be able to get him settled and dictate terms of the race from a handy position if required. There are one or two unexposed dangers, but none have shown what he has shown. At 1/3 he is no gift to punters, but he is very hard to oppose and the one they all have to beat. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Tripoli Flyer – 14/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Dougie Costello | Trainer: Fergal O’Brien | Form: 74 | Rating: 80 | Topspeed: 60

A seven-year-old in a novice is hardly the usual angle, but he is one of the few in here with a solid enough level of form and an 80 rating gives him a fighting chance of nicking minor honours if the obvious one wins as expected. His latest fourth was perfectly respectable in the context of this race, and the 60 Topspeed figure is better than plenty of these can boast. Stall 12 is not ideal, but Dougie Costello is experienced enough to work around that. At 14/1 with three places on offer, he makes more appeal than a lot of the unproven outsiders for an each-way punt. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Water To Wine is the win bet and looks the banker in the race, even at cramped odds. For a bit of value, Tripoli Flyer is the each-way option in a field where plenty have shown very little. The obvious dangers are the unraced pair Humphrey and White Storm, who could easily be better than the exposed form horses.

20:00 – Unibet Supports Safer Gambling Handicap

Race Details: 7f | Class 4 | Going: Standard to slow (watering) (Polytrack) | | flat

This is a proper three-year-old handicap rather than a penalty kick, with several lightly raced types open to improvement and a few already showing they can operate in this grade. Ya Karim is easy to see near the head of the market after a solid return and the plum inside draw, while Caviar Cowboy arrives on the back of a deserved breakthrough and still looks on the upgrade for James Fanshawe. Slight Of Foot is another with scope after only three runs, and Lord Britain is not one to dismiss if bouncing back from a quieter effort. Even so, this feels more about who has a bit in hand than bare figures alone. In a 14-runner field around Kempton’s 7f, track position and settling matters, but finishing power should decide it.

Top Selections

1. Caviar Cowboy – 9/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Daniel Muscutt | Trainer: James Fanshawe | Form: 3-221 | Rating: 90 | Topspeed: 81

He has been knocking loudly on the door and last time finally put his head in front, which was the sort of performance suggesting this mark may not have him pinned just yet. The form figures are those of a progressive sort learning his trade quickly, and Fanshawe’s three-year-olds on the all-weather are always worth respecting when they start stringing runs together. A draw in 4 looks handy for a horse who should get a smooth trip, and Daniel Muscutt is an ideal fit round here. At 9/2, he makes plenty of appeal in a race where some of the shorter ones still have to prove a little more in handicaps. Bet: WIN

2. Slight Of Foot – 11/2 with Betfair

Jockey: Hector Crouch | Trainer: Harry Charlton | Form: 02-6 | Rating: 90 | Topspeed: 68

Slight Of Foot is the one who could easily take a step forward now switched into handicap company after just three starts. That juvenile second reads well enough for this level, and the reappearance sixth need not be marked too harshly given he was entitled to come on for it. Harry Charlton saddles the likely favourite Ya Karim as well, but this one gets in with just 128 and could be very well treated if progressing as expected. Hector Crouch knows how to deliver one late at Kempton, and in a race with four places on offer, 11/2 looks a perfectly fair each-way punt for a colt with more upside than many of these exposed rivals. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Caviar Cowboy is the win play because he brings the strongest recent handicap profile and still looks to be improving. Slight Of Foot is the each-way alternative, with his low weight and unexposed profile making him attractive in a big field. Ya Karim is the obvious danger from stall 1, while Lord Britain is capable of getting involved if returning to his earlier level.

20:30 – Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap (GBBPlus Race)

Race Details: 1m 3f | Class 3 | Going: Standard to slow (watering) (Polytrack) | | flat

This is a proper end-of-card handicap rather than a giveaway, with several of these arriving with workable marks and bits of all-weather promise. Alther Walden heads the market after his winter progress, but that latest pulled-up effort leaves an obvious question to answer and makes him no gimme at the prices. Ernst Blofeld is solid enough and shaped well on his return, while Time Loop and Master Vintner are the sort who could easily step forward second time out. Bulletin is interesting despite a wide draw, having been knocking on the door, and Son Of Man is in the argument from the foot of the weights. It looks a tricky puzzle more than a strong race, and I’d rather side with horses still capable of better than exposed older handicappers.

Top Selections

1. Time Loop – 15/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Tom Marquand | Trainer: William Haggas | Form: 2/12-4 | Rating: 98 | Topspeed: 66

He makes plenty of appeal in a race where a few of the market principals have something to prove. Time Loop returned from a break to finish fourth and that run looked very much like a prep for a race of this nature, especially from a yard that tends to bring them along steadily. His earlier profile suggests there is still mileage in his mark of 98, and stall 2 is no bad place to operate from around here if Marquand can hold a handy position. At 15/2 he looks the sensible play against shakier favourites, with Haggas runners in these middle-distance handicaps rarely lacking intent. Bet: WIN

2. Bulletin – 8/1 with William Hill

Jockey: Rob Hornby | Trainer: Jonathan Portman | Form: 143-32 | Rating: 101 | Topspeed: 69

Bulletin has the right look for an each-way punt in a 14-runner race paying four places. He has been admirably consistent since returning, finishing third and then second, and he did not shape like a horse who has reached his ceiling just yet. The outside draw in 14 is the obvious snag, but this is not a hopeless berth if Hornby can slot in rather than get lit up early, and his current form entitles him to plenty of respect off 101. With a couple of sexier yards dominating the betting, 8/1 feels fair for one who is actually bringing recent, reliable handicap form to the table. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Time Loop is the win angle at around 15/2, mainly because he looks poised to improve from his comeback and has fewer negatives than most. Bulletin is the each-way option at 8/1, with his recent placed efforts making him attractive in a race with four places on offer. The main dangers are Ernst Blofeld, who returned well, and Alther Walden if you forgive that last run entirely.

21:00 – Bet £20 Get £20 With Unibet Handicap (London Stayers’ Series Qualifier) (GBBPlus Race)

Race Details: 1m 7f | Class 4 | Going: Standard to slow (watering) (Polytrack) | | flat

This looks a proper staying handicap rather than a penalty kick, with several arriving from different angles and a few of them still open to a bit of manoeuvre over this trip. Moon Chime heads the market after a fair reappearance and is obviously well treated on old form, while Selenic is the one from the Prescott yard who could easily have more to give now settling into middle-distance handicaps. Gooloogong is progressive in his own right and comes here on the back of a win, while Yaa Min has been busy and largely reliable. The shape of the race suggests stamina and track position will matter, and in a field of 11 with four places on offer it feels more like a race to play with a win bet and a value each-way swing than one to get carried away with.

Top Selections

1. Selenic – 4/1 with Betfair

Jockey: Luke Morris | Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott Bt | Form: -61634 | Rating: 91 | Topspeed: 73

Selenic makes plenty of appeal in a race where a few of the principals have already shown most of their hand. He won earlier in the year, has remained competitive off this sort of mark, and his latest fourth suggested he stays on well enough to think this 1m7f can bring out a bit more. A mark of 91 is no giveaway, but Prescott stayers are rarely sent into these races without a plan and Luke Morris is exactly the sort you want on one around Kempton. At 4/1 he is not being missed, but he still looks the percentage call in a race lacking an obvious blot. Bet type: WIN.

Bet: WIN

2. High Point – 25/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa | Trainer: Ross Burdon | Form: 0215-3 | Rating: 87 | Topspeed: 64

If you want one at a price, High Point is far more interesting than the market suggests. He returned from a break with a respectable third, which should have put an edge on him, and that piece of form gives him a squeak off 87 if this turns into a proper stamina test. The wide draw is no gift, but Silvestre De Sousa is well capable of overcoming it if he can slot in early, and the horse has at least shown he can be competitive in this sort of company. Available at 25/1, he looks overpriced in a race where plenty have questions to answer and four places make him an obvious each-way punt. Bet type: EACH-WAY.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Selenic is the solid play and the one I would keep onside for the win, as he looks the runner most likely to improve again for this test. For an each-way alternative, High Point is simply too big at 25/1 in an 11-runner race with four places. The obvious dangers are Moon Chime, who is well handicapped, and Gooloogong, who arrives in form.
