16:10 – Cappawhite Civil Engineering 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle

Race Details: 2m | | Going: GOOD, Good to firm in places (Watering) | | jumps

This is an interesting little 3-y-o maiden hurdle rather than a deep one, and the market has understandably latched on to the pair from the strongest yards. Minella Rockett and Boston Benjamin dominate the betting and, in truth, it would be a surprise if the winner came from much further down the list. Divelment and Words Unspoken head the second wave at fairer prices, while the rest look like they have plenty to prove on paper. Over this sharp enough 2m on decent ground, tactical pace and clean jumping could count for plenty, especially with several lightly-raced types learning on the job. It does not look an impossible puzzle, but in races like this the obvious pair can still be vulnerable if one of the lesser-exposed runners takes to hurdling straight away.

Top Selections

1. Minella Rockett – 13/8 with Bet365

Jockey: Daniel King | Trainer: John J Nallen | Form: | Rating: | Topspeed:

Minella Rockett is the one the market keeps coming back to, and that makes plenty of sense in a race where not many arrive with obvious substance. At 13/8 with Bet365, he is no giveaway, but he looks the most likely winner if taking to hurdling in the expected fashion. This yard can ready one well enough for a maiden of this nature and, in a field where several outsiders appear up against it, solidity counts for plenty. The good ground should suit a sharp, straightforward type and this does not look the strongest juvenile maiden hurdle you will see. He is the percentage call and hard to oppose. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Words Unspoken – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Phillip Enright | Trainer: S Curling | Form: | Rating: | Topspeed:

If you want to step away from the obvious pair, Words Unspoken makes most appeal as the each-way play. He is priced at 11/2 with Bet365 and that looks workable in a 10-runner race with three places on offer, especially as the depth behind the front two is not great. Phillip Enright is a positive booking for a race where experience in the saddle can make a difference, and this one may not need to improve a ton to get involved. He is preferred to Divelment at similar odds simply because he appeals as the one more likely to pick up the pieces if the principals fluff their lines. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Minella Rockett is the win play and the most sensible starting point in a race lacking depth. For an each-way punt, Words Unspoken looks the value at the prices with three places available. Boston Benjamin is the obvious danger and could easily make a fight of it, while Divelment is another to keep onside for minor honours.

16:45 – Cappawhite Civil Engineering Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m | | Going: GOOD, Good to firm in places (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a properly competitive little handicap rather than a race full of exposed plodders. Eastmore brings the most persuasive recent consistency and his profile suggests another big run over this sharp 2m, while Emesteraye and Silly Mongoose are the obvious ones near the head of the market after recent encouraging efforts. Dairy Force is interesting on old form if you forgive a poor latest run, and Tuche De Houelle is unexposed enough to matter despite top weight. There are a few in here who arrive with something to prove, but plenty have bits of form that tie in well enough to make this a tricky puzzle. In a race where pace and clean jumping could decide plenty, I want one who keeps putting himself there.

Top Selections

1. Eastmore – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Danny Mullins | Trainer: C Byrnes | Form: 222-32 | Rating: 114 | Topspeed: 101

Eastmore is not hiding from the assessor, but he keeps running like a horse whose turn is near. Those figures of 222-32 tell their own story: he travels, he jumps well enough, and he has been knocking loudly in similar company. The latest second confirmed he remains in good heart, and a mark of 114 still looks workable given how solidly he is operating. Danny Mullins is a notable booking for a Byrnes runner in this sort of race and, at 11/2, he appeals as the percentage call in a field where several rivals arrive with more questions hanging over them. Bet: WIN

2. Tuche De Houelle – 17/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Calum Hogan | Trainer: E McNamara | Form: 315/1- | Rating: 112 | Topspeed:

Tuche De Houelle makes plenty of each-way appeal because he is still lightly raced over hurdles and arrives off the back of a win after a break, which hints there could be a bit more to come. Carrying top weight is no gift in a race this tight, but a mark of 112 does not look excessive for a 5yo with so little mileage. That last-time-out success gives him momentum, and McNamara’s runners are often worth a second look when they start putting it together in handicaps. At 17/2, he looks a fair each-way punt against some shorter-priced types who have had more chances. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Eastmore is the solid win play because he keeps producing the right level of form and looks the safest option to run his race. Tuche De Houelle is the each-way alternative at a more attractive price, with his unexposed profile making him interesting. The main dangers are Emesteraye, who could easily build on that reappearance third, and Silly Mongoose, who arrives here on the back of a confidence-boosting win.

17:20 – Kevin McManus Bookmaker Grimes Hurdle (Grade 3)

Race Details: 2m | | Going: GOOD, Good to firm in places (Watering) | | jumps

This is a small but pretty interesting Grade 3, with the market understandably revolving around Daddy Long Legs, Bowensonfire and the admirable veteran Jesse Evans. Daddy Long Legs arrives off a winning return and has the class edge on pure ability, while Bowensonfire brings the strongest rating in the field and could easily improve again as a 6yo. Jesse Evans, meanwhile, is the battle-hardened benchmark after scoring last time and giving weight all round here. It is not an easy race to play because there is a mix of proven class and seasonal unknowns, but the shape looks straightforward enough: if Daddy Long Legs is as good as he was on comeback, he is the one they all have to beat, with Jesse Evans perhaps the safest alternative for those looking beyond the favourite.

Top Selections

1. Daddy Long Legs – 11/8 with Betfair

Jockey: Paul Townend | Trainer: W P Mullins | Form: 5292/1 | Rating: 162 | Topspeed: 107

He is hard to oppose. The form figures do not tell the whole story because that latest success came after a long absence, and to return in that style for Willie Mullins suggests there should be more to come now the cobwebs are blown away. A mark of 162 leaves him right near the top of this field and, with Paul Townend booked, everything points to a serious run. The quick ground should hold no fears and this sharp enough 2m looks ideal. At 11/8 he is not exactly a secret, but he still makes plenty of appeal in a race where the main dangers all have something to prove. Bet: WIN

2. Jesse Evans – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Sam Ewing | Trainer: Noel Meade | Form: 225-31 | Rating: 152 | Topspeed:

Jesse Evans is the solid each-way play in a race lacking depth beyond the principals. He comes here off the back of a win, has been running consistently in better company for a long time, and his toughness counts for plenty in these summer graded hurdles. Yes, he has to concede weight to most of the field, but that is the trade-off for being such a reliable yardstick. Noel Meade’s 10yo does not have the upside of the younger legs, yet he rarely runs a bad one and this does not look deep enough to expose him. Around 4/1, he looks the value if you want something likely to be thereabouts. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Daddy Long Legs is the win play and makes the most obvious appeal if building around the likely class act. Jesse Evans is the each-way option in a seven-runner race where reliability matters and he should give you a run for your money. Bowensonfire is the obvious danger on ratings and could be the one to punish any lack of sharpness from the favourite.

17:52 – Eddie Noonan Groundworks Maiden Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD, Good to firm in places (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a maiden hurdle with a fairly obvious spine to it, but it is not quite the penalty kick the market might suggest. Latopix brings the best recent piece of form after finishing second and has the strongest topspeed figure in the field, while Jack Owen Jack has been knocking loudly on the door and sets the standard among the older horses. Open Approach is the interesting four-year-old getting weight and representing Gordon Elliott, so there is enough depth at the head of the market to make this a proper contest. Beyond those, Siege Of Carthage has shown ability without yet quite delivering, and Freddie’s Back is another with bits of form. In a 21-runner race, though, proven hurdling competence should count for plenty.

Top Selections

1. Latopix – 7/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Darragh O’keeffe | Trainer: Henry De Bromhead | Form: 0/38-2 | Rating: 111 | Topspeed: 90

Latopix makes the most appeal because he arrives with the right blend of experience and untapped upside. That latest second suggests he has found his level now, and a mark of 111 alongside a topspeed of 90 is a very solid combination in this company. Henry De Bromhead does not need many excuses to improve one from run to run, and this 2m4f test on decent ground should suit a horse who looks capable of travelling strongly and seeing it out. At 7/4 he is no giveaway in a field this size, but he is still the one with the most persuasive profile and the clearest winning chance. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Siege Of Carthage – 12/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Phillip Enright | Trainer: Josh Halley | Form: 2-5 | Rating: | Topspeed:

Siege Of Carthage is the each-way angle in a race where plenty of these have shown very little. He shaped with promise when runner-up on debut and was not disgraced when fifth next time, so there is a fair chance he can take another step forward now with just two runs under his belt. Phillip Enright is a positive booking for a horse who may need delivering late in a big field, and 12/1 feels fair given how thin the depth is behind the obvious principals. He does not have the solidity of Latopix or Jack Owen Jack, but he is a progressive sort in the making and looks the value for an each-way punt. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Latopix is the straightforward win play and the one I would keep on side despite the short price. For a bit of value in a race with three places on offer, Siege Of Carthage makes plenty of appeal each-way at double-figure odds. Jack Owen Jack is the obvious danger, while Open Approach is the unexposed one getting weight if the market confidence proves justified.

18:23 – Joe Walsh Flooring Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD, Good to firm in places (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a proper summer handicap hurdle: plenty in with chances, but not many you could call bombproof. Global Skies arrives off a win and is the obvious starting point now stepped up in trip, while Friar Hogan has been smashed into the front rank on the strength of a feather weight despite a rather uninspiring recent string. Cocovic brings solid, repeatable handicap form and should run his race again, and Warm In Gorey has quietly rediscovered the plot. Lower down, Cullenwaine is interesting off just 140 if the race is run to suit. In truth, this is a tricky enough puzzle rather than a deep race, and I’d rather side with runners who are either improving or particularly well treated at the weights.

Top Selections

1. Global Skies – 10/3 with Bet365

Jockey: Danny Gilligan | Trainer: Ross O’Sullivan | Form: 078-21 | Rating: 107 | Topspeed: 72

He’s the one I want on side. Global Skies has turned a corner in his last two starts, first shaping with promise when second and then getting the job done last time, and this step up to 2m4f looks more likely to unlock further improvement than expose him. A 5yo with only a mark of 107 still has room to manoeuvre in a race like this, and Danny Gilligan is a positive booking for a yard that can place one well. At 10/3 he isn’t wildly overpriced, but he does look the most likely winner if building on that latest success. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Cullenwaine – 14/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Shane O’Callaghan | Trainer: David O’Sullivan | Form: 502-25 | Rating: 111 | Topspeed:

For an each-way play, Cullenwaine makes plenty of appeal from the foot of the weights. He’s carrying only 140, and his form figures before the latest run suggested he was knocking on the door, notably when runner-up after a solid return. I’m happy enough to forgive that last fifth if this stronger gallop helps him settle and travel into it a bit better. In a 15-runner handicap with four places on offer, he’s the type who could easily outrun double-figure odds if keeping tabs on the principals turning for home. At 14/1, that looks a fair each-way punt. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Global Skies is the win bet, as he’s one of the few in here arriving with clear momentum and the profile of a progressive sort over this longer trip. Cullenwaine is the each-way alternative at a much bigger price, helped by a low weight in a race where plenty have questions to answer. Friar Hogan and Cocovic look the main dangers if the market has them right.

18:58 – Munster Suite @ Limerick Races Handicap Hurdle (Div I)

Race Details: 2m 6f | | Going: GOOD, Good to firm in places (Watering) | | jumps

This is the sort of summer handicap hurdle that can make fools of plenty, with 19 runners and a few arriving with bits of persuasive form without looking bombproof. Illtakehimmyself sets a solid standard after back-to-back runner-up efforts and looks sure to be popular, while Le Fanu comes here on the back of a win and Sallap is clearly thriving after scoring twice in his last three completed starts. The lower weights also have a say, with Friends Of Barry interesting after a much better latest run and Ocean Murphy one of the more intriguing lightly raced types in the line-up. It doesn’t strike me as a deep race full of hidden quality, but it is a proper betting puzzle where current well-being and seeing out the trip smoothly should decide it.

Top Selections

1. Illtakehimmyself – 10/3 with Bet365

Jockey: Calum Hogan | Trainer: E McNamara | Form: 995-22 | Rating: 102 | Topspeed: 81

He is hardly hiding his wellbeing, and those last two second-place finishes make him the most persuasive option in a race where plenty have questions to answer. A mark of 102 still looks manageable if he can reproduce that recent level, and as a 5yo there is every chance there is a bit more to come over staying trips. The form figures are straightforward enough, but what I like is that he arrives here in the right rhythm rather than trying to bounce back from a poor run. At 10/3 he is not a giveaway in a 19-runner handicap, but he still makes most appeal as the one with the fewest negatives. Bet type: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Friends Of Barry – 9/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Phillip Enright | Trainer: John E & Thomas Kiely | Form: 080-02 | Rating: 102 | Topspeed: 98

He looked a different proposition when runner-up last time, and in a race where the market will naturally focus on the obvious last-time-out winners and placed horses, he makes plenty of each-way appeal at 9/1. That latest effort suggested he is coming to hand at the right time, and his topspeed figure of 98 stacks up well enough in this company. Phillip Enright is an eye-catching booking in these sorts of staying handicaps, and if that recent revival was no fluke then this mark does not look beyond him at all. He is not one for maximum trust, but this is exactly the kind of race where an improved effort can be backed up. Bet type: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Illtakehimmyself is the win play because he brings the most reliable recent form into a race short on certainty. For an each-way punt, Friends Of Barry makes plenty of sense with five places on offer after shaping much better last time. The obvious dangers are Le Fanu, who arrives in winning form, and Sallap, who looks progressive despite a career that has not been completely straightforward.

19:33 – Munster Suite @ Limerick Races Handicap Hurdle (Div II)

Race Details: 2m 6f | | Going: GOOD, Good to firm in places (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a proper summer handicap puzzle rather than a race full of solid certainties. Mickey Hulie is the obvious starting point after getting his head back in front last time, but he is up against a deep field and has to shoulder top weight in a 19-runner contest over nearly three miles. Ellies Rock and The Rebel County arrive with more persuasive recent profiles than plenty of these, while Hob’s Angel is another with current form despite being a veteran. There are also lurking dangers at bigger prices, notably Phildante off a low weight and Technology if returning in the mood. In a race where stamina and clean jumping will matter as much as raw ability, I want something still looking fairly treated rather than one the market may have fully found.

Top Selections

1. The Rebel County – 7/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Alan O’Sullivan | Trainer: G Ahern | Form: 77-443 | Rating: 103 | Topspeed:

He makes plenty of appeal in a race where a lot of these come with caveats. The recent sequence of 4-4-3 suggests he is knocking on the door, and unlike some of his rivals he looks to be running his way into form rather than trying to bounce back from a poor effort. A mark of 103 is workable enough, and this trip looks likely to suit on a sound surface where rhythm matters. Alan O’Sullivan rides a horse who should travel well and, at 7/1, he looks the right balance between solidity and upside in a messy handicap. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Phildante – 12/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Gavin Brouder | Trainer: Eoin Doyle | Form: 006-64 | Rating: 106 | Topspeed: 91

Phildante is the each-way angle because the handicapper may just be giving him a chance now that he is down to 144 in the weights. His last two runs have not screamed imminent winner, but they were not devoid of promise either, and this is the type of staying handicap where a battle-hardened nine-year-old can run better than the market expects. He has a bit of class tucked away on old figures, carries a light weight for one rated 106, and the 12/1 on offer makes him very backable in a race paying five places. He is the type to keep plugging when others have cried enough. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

The Rebel County is the win play because his recent profile is the cleanest and he looks poised to strike in this grade. Phildante is the each-way punt at double-figure odds with five places on offer, especially from a handy racing weight. Mickey Hulie is the obvious danger after his latest win, while Ellies Rock also has claims if brushing up her jumping.

20:08 – INPBA Supporting Irish Racing INH Flat Race (In Memory Of Jerry McDonnell)

Race Details: 2m | | Going: GOOD, Good to firm in places (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a fairly informative little bumper rather than a deep one, with the market understandably revolving around the three with solid experience. Bacharach sets the standard on the figures after finishing second last time and he has the significant booking of Derek O’Connor for Gavin Cromwell, which always catches the eye in this sphere. Caislean Gear also made a promising start when runner-up and doesn’t look short of ability, while Time For Talking shaped well enough in third to suggest there is more to come. Of the newcomers, Frisco Lad is the one most likely to attract support from a top yard, but on known evidence this should chiefly concern those with form in the book. It’s not impossible, but it doesn’t look a race to get too clever in.

Top Selections

1. Bacharach – 6/4 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Mr Derek O’Connor | Trainer: Gavin Cromwell | Form: 0-2 | Rating: 112 | Topspeed: 109

Bacharach is the percentage call. His latest second is the best piece of placed form on offer and his figures back that up, with a 112 rating and 109 Topspeed giving him a narrow but clear edge on what we’ve seen so far. The fact Cromwell teams up with Derek O’Connor only strengthens the case, because that combination in bumpers tends to mean business. He should know more now than he did on debut, this sounder surface ought to suit, and in a race where a few rivals still have to prove they can match him, 6/4 looks perfectly fair rather than cramped. 2. Time For Talking – 5/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr E P O’Brien | Trainer: Richard Hennessy | Form: 3 | Rating: 109 | Topspeed: 105

Time For Talking makes plenty of each-way appeal in a nine-runner race paying three places. He wasn’t disgraced when third on debut and the numbers say that effort was no fluke, with a 109 rating and 105 Topspeed putting him right in the mix behind the principals. He doesn’t have quite the same obvious upside as Bacharach, but he has already shown enough to suggest he can be competitive again, and there’s every chance he steps forward for the experience. At 5/1, he looks the value alternative to the two shorter-priced runners and a sensible each-way punt if you want cover against a straightforward market outcome. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Bacharach is the solid win play and the one hardest to oppose on both form and rider booking. For an each-way angle, Time For Talking appeals at the prices with three places on offer. Caislean Gear is the obvious danger after his promising second, while Frisco Lad is the newcomer to note if the market speaks in his favour.
