Musselburgh Racing Tips (Saturday 4 April 2026)
There are seven races taking place at Musselburgh on Saturday, with a 1.25pm start. Andrew has a number of selections at the Scottish venue.
1.25 Musselburgh – Vincenzo Peruggia (1pt win – 3/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, 11/4 bet365)
The Johnston yard has been responsible for five of the last ten winners of the Royal Mile Handicap and Vincenzo Peruggia looks the answer to this year’s renewal. The Lope De Vega colt has the worst of the draw in stall 6 but has the early speed to get a handy position towards the inside rail and should be suited by the step up in trip after his 40-1 last-of-ten effort in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood when we last saw him. That performance was better than it looked, as he raced prominently in a race run to suit the closers (the first four finishers were described by the Racing Post as “midfield”, “held up in last”, “midfield” and “dwelt start, in rear”). Dorset, best of the prominent racers in fifth, won a Group 3 when we last saw him and is now rated 106, while Humidity, second best of those who raced up with the pace, is currently rated 112. Vincenzo Peruggia started his life in handicap company off a mark of 91 and that could prove to be on the generous side.
3.05 Musselburgh – Dancingwithmyself (1pt win – 6/1 bet365, 11/2 generally) & Moon Over Miami (0.5pt win – 5/1 bet365, William Hill)
The 1m6f Queen’s Cup Handicap usually goes to a runner in the top six in the weights who was returning from a break of more than 12 weeks and in-form Michael Bell’s Dancingwithmyself fits the bill. Backing all of the qualifiers in the past seven renewals would have found six winners from 26 bets for a profit of £32.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. The five-year-old mare should be suited by the tight turns of Musselburgh as her record on sharp tracks reads 112271841 (4-9), with the runner-up efforts by a head and a neck.
Moon Over Miami, another qualifier on the above mentioned system, has been off the track for almost a year but is three from three on turf and Ralph Beckett’s five-year-old is also worth an in interest.
3.42 Musselburgh – Eternal Sunshine (0.5pt e/w – 12/1 bet365, 11/1 William Hill, Paddy Power, 10/1 generally, Sky Bet paying five places)
Eternal Sunshine (stall 13 of 14) represents last year’s winning yard, and she ran much better than her tenth-of-19 finishing position suggested at York in October when we last saw her. There was a very strong bias to low draws that day (first seven home drawn 6, 3, 5, 7, 11, 8 and 1) and her stall 18 draw was a huge disadvantage. The six-year-old fared second best of those drawn very high and looks set for a good season. Jim Goldie’s mare has form figures of 2221113330 from her last ten starts in sprints (5f-6f) on turf and, while 5f round here is sharp enough for her reappearance, her high draw and the likely strong gallop will help and she’s worth a small each-way interest.
Haydock Park Racing Tips (Saturday 4 April 2026)
There’s a 1.37pm start at Haydock Park, with Andrew’s best bet on the card lining up in the 3.20pm contest.
3.20 Haydock – Outlaw Peter (0.5pt e/w – 10/1 William Hill, ¼ 1,2,3,4,5, bet365, 1/5 1,2,3,4,5)
The Paul Nicholls-trained Outlaw Peter usually struggles in the depths of winter, scoring just once from 13 starts during the November to February period, with that sole success coming on November 4th when 4-7 favourite. His record from March to October reads 1121191P11252 (7-13) for a profit of £4.12 to a £1 level stake at SP and, as a ten-year-old, he’s a good statistical fit for veterans’ handicap chase company. The cheekpieces go on for the fist time and Nicholls’ record with chasers in this headgear since 2010 stands at 31 winners from 134 runners (23.1% strike-rate) for a profit of £37.14 to a £1 level stake at SP. I mentioned two others on GG’s Weekend Watch – Neon Moon and Filanderer. I’ve saved on the first-named but Filanderer is best fresh and he last ran just 25 days ago, albeit he was pulled up, so perhaps didn’t have a hard race.
