Newbury Tips (Friday 14th August 2026)
It’s a fairly late afternoon start at Newbury, with seven races getting under way at 3.00pm. The feature race of the day comes at 5.23pm with the listed St Hugh’s Stakes attracting a stellar field.
4.45 Newbury – Evenfall (1pt win – 11/8)
George Boughey’s Evenfall won comfortably on debut at Yarmouth in a 5f novice stakes. She beat Minster Man that day quite comfortably, and that runner then went and tasted victory on his second start, so the form has been franked. It’s a notable step up for Boughey’s charge at Newbury in their 4.45pm race, but the Harry Angel filly should have no issues with the step up to six furlongs and can score. Man of the moment Billy Loughnane will be in the saddle, and if he can continue his fine form then he could well partner Boughey for more success in this intriguing event.
5.23 Newbury – Fast Track (1pt win – 5/1)
A real punting headscratcher, a field of 13 line up for the listed St Hugh’s Stakes at 5.23pm, with some very smart fillies taking their chance. Acting Lady and Efsixteen are two notable contenders, but Fast Track looks the one to beat for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy. Last seen chasing home Wild Blossom in a quality renewal of the Alice Keppel Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, Fast Track will be hoping to use that as a springboard here. Down the field in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, she’s one that has shown real promise and this could be the sort of level she excels at.
5.58 Newbury – Stratocracy (1pt win – 9/2)
Kevin Frost’s Stratocracy has a win over course and distance, and whilst that was in a lower grade he’s one that could strike in the 5.58pm contest. Now rated 7lbs higher, he will need a career best to land this contest, but he was a very narrow third in a competitive York handicap last time out, so a repeat of that here should see him get close. Prior to that York run he was a creditable fifth at Newbury, so if he can replicate those sort of runs here then has to be considered.
Epsom Tips (Friday 14th August 2026)
There are six races at Epsom on Friday, with a 2.48pm start. However, you need to wait for the 4pm contest for our best bet at the meeting.
4.00 Epsom – Angel Gabrial (1pt win – 15/2)
Angel Gabrial has just found it tough over seven furlongs of late, so a drop back to six in the 4.00pm contest at Epsom could bring on some improvement. The son of Mehmas’ only victory came over that trip and a mark of 80 still looks feasible, if he can get his act together again. Ralph Beckett’s charge will need to kick on from what he’s shown on the track, but that drop in trip can bring on that progression. Last-time-out winner Modern Times appears the one to beat for James Owen.
