Newcastle Racing Tips (Friday 3 April 2026)
Across seven races at Newcastle on Friday, the Championships of the all-weather season take place. Andrew has three best bets across two of those contests.
1.15 Newcastle – Andab (1pt win – 9/4 generally)
Runners graduating from novice company have a poor record in this 1m Listed race, which counts against Karl Burke’s 5-2 shot Billecart and Andrew Balding’s 7-2 chance New Monarch. With Jel Pepper (13-2) possibly flattered by his track position when scoring at Newmarket on his final start last term the bet is Andab. Joseph O’Brien’s son of Saxon Warrior has an all-weather pedigree and won a 7f Listed contest at Dundalk last autumn on his only previous start on an artificial surface. We went close in Doha in mid-February on his first try over today’s trip and is likely to be ridden patiently, ideal given the forecast headwind.
3.35 Newcastle – Pocklington (0.5pt e/w – 4/1 generally) & Ferrous (0.5pt e/w – 15/2 generally)
The price has shortened overnight but Pocklington is still worth a small each-way interest in this competitive 6f handicap. Geoff Oldroyd’s entire looks well berthed in stall 16 of 16 and has a very consistent profile over this trip on the all-weather, recording form figures of 112212 (3-5), with the defeats by a short head and three-quarters of a length.
Ferrous didn’t see out the 7f trip in Listed company at Wolverhampton last time, finishing sixth of the eight runners, and is best judged on his all-weather sprint record of 2115111342 (5-10), improving to 1151112 (5-7) in handicaps, with the latest defeat by a neck. Stall 15 could prove useful.
