It’s 1000 Guineas day at Newmarket on Sunday 3rd May. We focus our GG Lucky 15 for Sunday on the action at Flat Headquarters, but also have a selection running at Hamilton. All four selections line up in the live ITV Racing on Sunday, so check out our best bets of the day.
Newmarket Racing Tips (Sunday 3 May 2026)
It’s a 1.45pm start at Newmarket, with seven races taking place throughout the afternoon. The feature race is the Group 1 1000 Guineas, which is off at 3.35pm.
2.20 Newmarket – Cathedral (1pt win – 4/1)
Cathedral hasn’t tasted victory since winning her maiden at Salisbury back in September 2024, but she can notch up a second success on Sunday in the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes at 2.20pm. Only out of the first four once in her career, she’s been a real model of consistency for Kevin Phillipart De Foy. She warmed up for this event with a third placed finish in a listed event at Kempton Park, which should bring her on considerably. Fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, if she can replicate that run then she can prove too classy for her rivals here.
2.55 Newmarket – Dramatic Star (1pt win – 5/1)
Runner-up in the Old Borough Cup at Haydock Park last season off a mark of 89. Dramatic Star can build on that effort this season and is a leading contender for the 2.55pm race. Now rated 92, the William Haggas-trained star was last seen competing over two miles in the All Weather Championships. The drop back to 1m 6f on Sunday should certainly play more to his strengths and he looks the one to beat. It’s his first visit to Newmarket, so that’s a slight worry, but he has shown he can produce the goods in big field handicaps has to be considered a major player.
3.35 Newmarket – True Love (1pt win – 7/1)
Aidan O’Brien plays a strong hand in the 1000 Guineas, with Precise looking his primary shot. However, True Love could well upset her stablemate, as she looks to hand the Ballydoyle handler an eighth win in the fillies’ Classic. A fine winner of the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket last season, she has already had the benefit of a run, and won impressively at Leopardstown in a Group 3 event. This is much tougher, but with race fitness on her side she can land the prize. If she gets into a battle with Precise late on then True Love can just benefit for having a run and down the well-fancied Fillies’ Mile heroine.
Hamilton Racing Tips (Sunday 3 May 2026)
Seven races make up Hamilton’s Flat card, with the action getting under way at 2.05pm. The 2.40pm race is part of the live ITV Racing coverage, and we pick out a selection in that 1m 5f 16y contest.
2.40 Hamilton – Galyx (1pt win – 9/4)
Square Necker chased home Constitution Hill at Southwell last time out, but was beaten a whopping nine lengths by Nicky Henderson’s superstar. Still open to improvement, he’s one that could improve as the season goes on, but Galyx is the one worth siding with in the 2.40pm race. Jack Channon’s charge has been dropped 1lb by the handicapper for a creditable third placed finish at Carlisle. A winner over 1m 2f at Leicester, he’s one that could enjoy the step up in distance. He’s been off the track a long time, but Channon’s contender can return with a win.
