Newmarket Racing Tips (Sunday 3 May 2026)
It’s 1000 Guineas day at Newmarket, but Andrew veers away from the fillies’ Classic and picks out his best bet in the 2.55pm contest.
2.55 Newmarket – Many Men (1pt e/w – 7/1 generally with the firms paying four places)
I was keen on Many Men for last season’s Cesarewitch as he takes a while to get going in his races and prefers tracks with a long home straight. However, Jim Boyle’s four-year-old didn’t take that route, instead opting for a 1m6f Listed contest at Ascot in which he finished a respectable fourth of eight (beaten by a length and a half). Musselburgh’s sharp track was no use for him on last month’s reappearance where he finished a modest fourth to Al Qareem in another Listed contest and he’ll be much happier back in handicap company and on faster ground. His record in handicap company over 1m2f or further stands at 11531812 (4-8), including a victory on his sole previous visit to the Rowley Mile.
Salisbury Racing Tips (Sunday 3 May 2026)
There’s alternative Flat action at Salisbury, with Andrew opting for an each-way selection in the 4.20pm event.
4.20 Salisbury – Last Trump (0.5pt e/w – 10/1 bet365)
Ranga Tang recorded a useful time when a front-running third in a 1m2f handicap at Newmarket last time, though it’s surprising to see him back in maiden company and I’d rather support something each-way against the market leader (6-4 at the time of writing). More interesting is Last Trump, who recorded a useful time for a newcomer despite finishing almost ten lengths behind the winner when an 80-1 fifth of eight at Newbury last month. That race was won by the very promising Water To Wine and Marcus Tregoning’s son of Sir Percy is likely to improve for the outing.
