Newmarket Tips (Thursday 6th August 2026)
Six races take place at Newmarket on Thursday, with a 2.20pm start. Here’s the best bets for the action at flat HQ.
2.20 Newmarket – Just Typical (1pt win – 4/1)
Just Typical disappointed a little last time out when third of five at Chepstow. However, prior to that he ran well over course and distance at Newmarket, when finishing fourth in a higher grade. The Ian Williams-trained raider has since been dropped by the handicapper once again and is now back down to his last winning mark. A winner at Redcar off 62 back in September last year, he’s been on a long, losing streak, but a return to Newmarket could see him flourish and this looks a very winnable contest.
4.33 Newmarket – Koala Rose (1pt win – 11/4)
James Owen’s High Fibre won the Summer Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen last time out, so heads to Newmarket in fine fettle. However, a return to the flat may not be ideal and it’s Ralph Beckett’s Koala Rose that can storm to victory in the 4.33pm race. Winless in all four starts, the daughter of Australia has been knocking on the door and has a brace of third placed finishes and two second placed efforts. Looking to go one better here, she will tackle two miles for the first time and that could be the reason why she improves. Plenty of stamina lies within her breeding, so this extreme test could play to her strengths and off a mark of 78 she can storm to victory.
Sandown Tips (Thursday 6th August 2026)
There are six more racing at Sandown on Thursday evening, with the racing kicking off at 5pm. We have another brace of selections to make up the Lucky 15 for the day.
7.23 Sandown – Desert Shadow (1pt win – 9/4)
Having won impressively at Lingfield last month on the grass, Desert Shadow is attempting to replicate that display in the 7.23pm at Sandown. Saeed bin Suroor’s charge has been given a 3lbs rise for that recent win, but a mark of 85 may not be enough to stop him going in again. He will have the burden of top weight in this event, but he looks like he has the potential to improve from that success and with Oisin Murphy in the saddle then he can bound to victory.
7.58 Sandown – Amused (1pt win – 6/1)
James Owen’s Great Blasket is entitled to be a warm order for the finale at 7.58pm, but he will have a penalty to carry, so could be worth taking on. Jim Boyle’s Amused seemed to recapture some form last time out when second at Sandown, when sent off a 25/1 shot. He will be a lot shorter in the betting for this contest, but if he can follow that run up then he has to be considered. Frustratingly, he’s been given a 2lbs rise, so does need to improve, but if Great Blasket fails to replicate his last run then the Boyle charge can pick up the pieces.
