It’s day two of Newmarket’s Craven Meeting on Wednesday 15 April and Andrew Mount has a brace of tips for the action at Flat HQ. He also has selections at Southwell and Haydock on what should be an excellent day’s racing.

Newmarket Racing Tips (Wednesday 15 April 2026)
Day two of the Craven Meeting takes place at Newmarket, with seven races making up the card. The action begins at 1.50pm, with Andrew’s two tips lining up in the Feilden Stakes at 2.25pm.
2.25 Newmarket – Command The Stars (0.5pt e/w – 18/1 bet365, Betfred, three places, 16/1 generally with the other firms paying three places) & Bourbon Blues (0.5pt e/w 18/1 generally with the firms paying three places)
I didn’t think the market leaders were bombproof in the 1m1f Listed Feilden Stakes – Charlie Appleby (Poseidon’s Warrior) is only one from eight in this race in the past ten years and Aidan O’Brien has a terrible recent record with his runners at this meeting. I want to throw a couple of darts at the two outsiders – Command The Stars and Bourbon Blues. The first-named has form figures below 1m2f since his debut of 1121 (3-4), looks well drawn in stall 1 (the stalls are on the far side today) and Rossa Ryan rides for the first time, while Bourbon Blues earned a sectional upgrade for his narrow second in a nursery here on his penultimate start and was only just touched off over this trip in a Group 3 at Chantilly on his latest outing.
Southwell Racing Tips (Wednesday 15 April 2026)
Southwell host an all-weather fixture this evening and Andrew opts for a 1.5pt selection in the 5.22pm contest and an each-way pick later on.
5.22 Southwell – Pershaada (1.5pt win – evens bet365)
Pershaada was sent off as the 10-11 favourite for a 5f fillies’ maiden at Wolverhampton on April 6th where she could only finish third to Lover Girl, beaten by a length and a half. However, Richard Hannon’s daughter of Persian Force was drawn in stall 1 of 8, missed a beat at the start, and raced on the ‘dead’ inside rail where the Tapeta surface was clearly slower (the winner and runner-up came from the two highest draws). She can put her experience to good use today and go two places better.
6.30 Southwell – Shipshape (1pt e/w – 9/2 generally)
Shipshape has performed with credit in both starts since joining Bernard Llewellyn from the Ralph Beckett yard, keeping on into a 22-1 fifth of eight over 1m4f at Southwell on his return from a 141-day break before his runner-up effort over today’s 1m6f trip at Wolverhampton. The four-year-old fared clear best of the hold-up horses behind all-the-way winner Tuba, recording a useful time in the process, and that form has already been boosted by a subsequent win from sixth-placed V Power. Supporting progeny of New Bay on back of a top-three effort has been a solid punting system, with 246 winners from 1019 bets (24.1% strike-rate) for a profit of £74.99 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£233.11 at Betfair SP after 2% commission).
Haydock Racing Tips (Wednesday 15 April 2026)
Seven races make up Haydock’s National Hunt fixture, with Andrew waiting until the 5.35pm race for his best bet on the card.
5.35 Haydock – Innamorato (1pt win – 11/2 Unibet, 5/1 bet365)
The Class 3 juvenile hurdle run at Newbury in late February is one of my favourite races to back in as penalised runners have a terrible record and can usually be taken on. This year, the two penalty carriers were 4-1 shot Innamorato who finished a five-length third and 9-2 chance Mojito Des Mottes, a further four lengths back in fourth. The last-named took a step forward on his next start, going down by a neck at 25-1 in a Class 2 handicap hurdle at Ascot off a mark of 114. Innamorato runs of the same mark on his handicap debut today and he looks a major player in this Class 3 contest.
