Horse racing has been on weather watch for the midweek fixtures due to the heatwave rolling across the UK. Some meetings have been moved earlier on Thursday as a result.
Make sure to catch Andrew Mount’s tips for the day early, as his selections run in the morning meetings at Nottingham and Newmarket.
Nottingham Racing Tips (Thursday 25 June 2026)
Nottingham is one of two meetings getting underway earlier to combat the heat on Thursday. Andrew’s selection at the track runs in one of the morning races.
11.30 Nottingham – Mariner (1pt e/w 10/1 bet365, 9/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power)
Mariner could never get involved from stall 11 of 11 when 40-1 for a 7.5f handicap on soft ground at Chester last time and will be happier back up to this extended mile trip on fast ground. In-form Jennie Candlish’s five-year-old will also benefit from the drop down from Class 5 to Class 6 level and gets a tongue-tie in addition to his usual cheekpieces. He tends to take time to reach peak fitness and he has form figures of 16114699 (3-8) when he’s had at least four runs in the past three months (+£8.00 to a £1 level stake at SP). Only three of those runs came in Class 6 company and they produced two wins (5-1 and 7-2) and an excusable sixth place (bumped and never able to strike a blow over an inadequate 7f trip).
Newmarket Racing Tips (Thursday 25 June 2026)
Newmarket’s is the other meeting brought forward for the weather. Andrew’s tips run in the third and fifth contests on the six-race card.
11.45 Newmarket – Change Sings (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
Change Sings was put up as a bet in this column at Kempton on May 20th but he was withdrawn after breaking out of the stalls. The reason for selecting him that day was his Windsor fifth nine days earlier where he did too much too soon on the ‘dead’ inside rail from a poor low draw (first two drawn 8 and 9 of 9). He ran a similar race back at Windsor last time, this time finishing less two lengths behind the winner in fifth of 12 and he returns to Newmarket for the first time since his Rowley Mile win in May 2024 on his only previous course visit.
12.45 Newmarket – Silver Ghost (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
I try to avoid moaning about unlucky losers as there are plenty of occasions when my winning bets benefit from horses being unlucky in behind but the neck defeat of Silver Ghost at Newmarket on May 16th still rankles. Heavily backed, Emma Lavelle’s filly was given too much to do by Finley Marsh and she also took the scenic route. Cieran Fallon takes over in the saddle today and the switch from Newmarket’s Rowley Mile to the July Course won’t bother her.
