4.52 Nottingham – Thornaby Pearl (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
Thornaby Pearl showed a good attitude when narrowly landing a 5f amateur riders’ handicap at Pontefract earlier this week, especially as he raced on the outside whereas the runner-up was on the rail. Adrian Nicholls’ veteran tends to go off the boil in the autumn but his record in sprint handicaps on genuinely good or softer turf, Class 5 or lower only, before September now stands at six wins from 20 starts for a profit of £17.63 to a £1 level stake at SP. Since the beginning of 2021, his trainer’s record on turf with last time out winners is 15 from 62 (24.2%) for a profit of £9.04 at SP and Thornaby Pearl’s forcing style will be an asset in this small field.
5.22 Nottingham – Timebar (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
Timebar went into my tracker at about this time last year when he finished a very unlucky-in-running 9-1 fourth in a 5f classified stakes at Leicester. Roy Bowring’s gelding followed that with a runner-up effort in similar company at Nottingham and wasn’t seen again in 2025. The five-year-old would have needed last month’s comeback effort after almost a year off the track, shaping well over 5f here after racing alone on the far side of the track. He could be in receipt of an easy lead here and, with that comeback run, behind him, looks worth a bet to make all.
