Andrew Mount returns from his summer break and our top tipster has a brace of tips for today’s racing on Tuesday 21st July. He focuses on the flat meetings at Nottingham and Salisbury, as he looks to hit the ground running.
Nottingham Racing Tips (Tuesday 21 July 2026)
Seven races take place at Nottingham, with a 2.45pm start. However, you have to wait until the 5.15pm contest for Andrew’s best bet on the card.
5.15 Nottingham – Emperor Caradoc (1pt win – 3/1 bet365, William Hill, 11-4 generally)
Nottingham is the sole afternoon meeting today but has been blighted by small fields, with just six, eight, three, six, five, eight and four runners due to line up before the inevitable non-runners later. However, the eight-runner 6f handicap (5.15) looks interesting, especially because of the overnight gamble on Jenever. Jessica Macey’s seven-year-old is well handicapped on a mark of 72 – 6lb lower than when scoring over C&D on easy ground last autumn – though I worry that this race will not be run to suit.
This sometimes-keen sort needs a fast pace and it’s no coincidence that his seven career wins have come in fields of ten or more runners. He’s 0-13 in single-figure line-ups (expected wins = 2.30) and I’m happy to oppose the 4-1 chance. Sixtygeesbaby clocked a useful time when fifth in a big field at York on his latest assignment but has still to win a handicap and I’d rather side with course expert Emperor Caradoc, who took his record at Colwick Park to 112 (2-3) when going down by half a length in a similar race on July 4th. Paul Midgley’s seven-year-old fared best of the far-side group that day and looks sure to run his race again.
Salisbury Racing Tips (Tuesday 21 July 2026)
It’s a 6.21pm start at Salisbury for their six races this evening. Andrew opts for the 6.51pm and has an eye-catching 20/1 pick for that novice stakes.
6.51 Salisbury – Hackpen Hill (1pt win – 20-1 Paddy Power, 18-1 generally)
Salisbury’s evening card looks more intriguing than the afternoon fare and I can’t resist a bet on the Ed Walker-trained Hackpen Hill in the 6f novice contest for colts/geldings (6.51) despite his eighth place on his recent debut (19 days ago). The son of Sioux Nation beat only a couple home in that ten-runner affair at Newbury but, typically for the track, nothing got into from off the pace – the first three were described by the Racing Post as “made virtually all”, “prominent” and “pressed leader” – and he was always playing catch-up after a slow start (also poorly drawn).
The yard’s juveniles typically improve for their debut efforts and, since Walker Started training, had we simply bet all his second time out two-year-olds we’d have won 57 of our 336 bets (17% strike-rate) and made a profit of £3.48 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£62.41 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). Those returned to the track within three weeks of their debut outing were 24 from 129 (18.6%) for a profit of £43.92 at SP (+£74.51 at Betfair SP). The last two qualifiers to run at Salisbury won at 16-1 and 11-1.
