Perth Racing Tips (Thursday 23 April 2026)
Eight races take place at Perth this afternoon, with some quality jumping action lighting up the Scottish venue. Andrew’s best bet on the card lines up in the 2.10pm event.
2.10 Perth – La Vish (0.5pt e/w – 16/1 generally)
La Vish went into my tracker after his debut 300-1 eighth of 11 in a Southwell bumper in mid-November, going down by 27 lengths but earning a big upgrade after racing in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail. Steph Hollinshead’s five-year-old built on that with a 150-1 third of 13 at Ludlow in a maiden hurdle next time, after which I suggested that he would be “something to back when making his handicap hurdle debut”. He surprised me when landing a three-runner novices’ hurdle at Warwick on this third hurdles outing, despite starting at 20-1, but his opening handicap mark of 108 could still be on the generous side.
2.40 Perth – Stoner’s Choice (0.5pt e/w – 9/1 bet365, 8/1 generally)
Stoner’s Choice usually comes good in the spring and though bombing out (21-length sixth of eight) when we joined in the gamble at Ludlow last time, I’m prepared to give him another chance. In-form Fergal O’Brien’s veteran now has form figures in the March to May period of 21141106 (4-8), improving to 211116 (4-6) for a profit of £18.63 to a £1 level stake at SP.
Beverley Racing Tips (Thursday 23 April 2026)
There’s a seven-race Flat card at Beverley on Thursday. You have to wait until the 4.52pm race for Andrew’s selection from the Yorkshire track.
4.52 Beverley – Glitter Code (1pt win – 100/30 bet365, 11/4 generally)
I was tempted by Sunny Orange in this extended mile handicap as his last four runs in Class 6 company at Beverley have returned form figures of 1121 (3-4), with the defeat by a head and he caught the eye on the slowest part of the track at Thirsk on his comeback, finishing a 50-1 sixth of 14. However, Tim Easterby is still struggling to get winners on the board this season, even with those who have had the benefit of a recent outing, and the six-year-old will just me my saver against main play Glitter Code. Ed Bethell is in fantastic form, and we’ve backed a couple of his recent winners, notably last Saturday’s nap Murashah at Thirsk, on the ‘Ed Bethell breaker-returners in the spring’ system. Supporting the yard’s turf handicap runners, after a break of 150 days or longer, in the March to May period would have found 16 winners from 46 bets (34.8%) for a profit of £29.13 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 8.44, A/E= 1.90). Eleven of those were making their stable debut and five won (+£12.38), including three of the last four. The four-year-old son of Kodiac, a 17-race maiden for William Knight, finished down the field in his sole outing for Micky Hammond last winter, albeit over 2m on the all-weather, and now returns to a more suitable extended mile trip in first-time blinkers.
