Pontefract Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Sunday 21 June

Pontefract Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Sunday 21 June

Royal Ascot has now come to an end, but the quest for profits has not for Andrew Mount. Three meetings take place to end the week on Sunday.

Andrew’s two selections for the afternoon both run at the feature meeting at Pontefract.

Pontefract Racing Tips (Sunday 21 June 2026)

Pontefract’s action on Sunday features Listed action, with Andrew selecting a tip in that contest, as well as in one other.

2.35 Pontefract – Reigning Profit (1pt win – 5/1 in a place, 4/1 generally)

Reigning Profit could never strike a blow at York last time, finishing tenth of the 16 runners, but that was in Class 2 company. and he drops down two class levels and he also returns to his favourite track. Ruth Carr’s seven-year-old has form figures at this venue of 711211788 (4-9), including form figures of 11218 (3-5) when racing at today’s 5f in Class 4 or lower company, with the runner-up effort by a nose and the eighth place excusable as he raced alone on the outer from a poor draw on unsuitably soft going.

3.05 Pontefract – Ghaiyya (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 bet365, 12/1 generally)

I wrote the following about Ghaiyya in Racing & Football Outlook after her fourth place to subsequent Royal Ascot winner Opportunity at Carlisle on May 30th

“OPPORTUNITY justified strong support to land the opening 1m3f Class 2 handicap despite racing keenly in the early stages. The William Haggas-trained four-year-old was always prominent under James Doyle, as was 28-1 runner-up STAR HARBOUR, and the one to go in the tracker is GHAIYYA, just over four lengths back in fourth. Charlie Johnston’s four-year-old fared second best of the closers and wouldn’t have found the 14-runner line-up to her liking. Since qualified for handicaps her turf record in fields of nine or fewer runners stands at 11151 (4-5).”

She’s drawn wide, up in class to Listed level and is running in a field of ten today but the market looks to have over-reacted, and I can’t resist a small bet.

15:05 Pontefract Castle Fillies’ Stakes (Listed Race) (GBBPlus Race)
