It’s a 1.57pm start at Pontefract, as eight races take place on the level. Andrew Mount’s best bet on the card comes later in the afternoon, as he has an each-way selection in the 3.57pm contest.
3.57 Pontefract – Reigning Profit (1pt e/w – 8/1, four places)
Reigning Profit performs best over 5f after a very recent outing (14 days or sooner), landing nine of his 34 such starts for a profit of £9.96 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 4.77, A/E = 1.89). At Pontefract only his 5f/recent run record stands at 11118 (4-5) for a profit of £19.08, with the defeat excusable as he was poorly drawn in stall 11 of 12. Ruth Carr’s seven-year-old is well drawn in stall 4 for this Class 2 handicap and will be fit after two runs on the all-weather last month.
Southwell Racing Tips (Tuesday 7 April 2026)
Another eight races feature on Southwell’s all-weather card, which gets under way at 4.55pm. You have to wait for the 7pm contest for Andrew’s selection.
7.00 Southwell – Signcastle City (0.5pt e/w – 9/1 William Hill, SpreadEx, Sky Bet, all four places)
Signcastle City was only fourth of seven in a 1m handicap at Chelmsford last time but missed the break, raced keenly in rear and challenged widest of all in a race dominated by the pace horses (the winner made all). It was a similar story in a 7f handicap at the Essex venue on his penultimate start when he finished a best-of-the-closers fifth. Richard Hannon’s six-year-old has a superior strike-rate on turf but he looks well handicapped and should get a good pace to chase courtesy of fellow Middle Park-owned runner Lexington Jet (vulnerable away from his beloved Chelmsford).
