Canon’s House proved unsuited to first-time cheekpieces (left off today) when only fifth to course expert Roman Dragon at Chester on his latest outing and is taken to bounce back this afternoon. Mick and David Easterby’s five-year-old drops down from Class 2 to Class 3 level and can blast off down the centre of the track and make all. It’s interesting to see his North Yorkshire yard send him down to Goodwood for the first time since his solid fifth of 20 in a hot Class 2 handicap last summer where the switch to patient tactics proved his undoing. The winner, runner-up and fourth were always prominent that day and those ridden patiently, who included third-placed Redorange and sixth-placed Jakajaro (both recent winners), were at a disadvantage. His full record below Class 2 level since the beginning of last season stands at 1112 (3-4), with the defeat by a head.
