18:09 – Download The Raceday Ready App Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes (Bands C/D)(GBB/IRE Incentive Race)

Race Details: 6f | Class 5 | Going: 7.9) (watering) (rail movements (Good, good to firm in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary restricted novice on paper, but there are a couple with enough substance to rise above the clutter. Eleven Eighty Two sets the standard on figures after finishing fourth and then second, while Halcon shaped well when third on debut and comes from a yard that knows exactly what is required around Ripon. Sovereign Grace also has a fair bit going for her on ratings and could easily step forward from a respectable introduction. The difficulty is working out which of the unexposed fillies might suddenly improve, with Spirit Of Lyra and Lady Rosalind representing stronger stables than their bare form implies. Still, the proven form should count for plenty and that makes this more about solid juveniles than a hidden blot.

Top Selections

1. Eleven Eighty Two – 5/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Jason Hart | Trainer: Ben Haslam | Form: 42 | Rating: 88 | Topspeed: 52

She has the most convincing form in the race and, in this company, that matters. A debut fourth was perfectly respectable, but it was the subsequent second that really put her firmly on the shortlist, and her rating of 88 stands out in a field where plenty are either guessing jobs or modest on what they’ve shown. The 6f trip clearly holds no fears and she gets in here with just 125, which is another plus against some of the fillies carrying more. Jason Hart is a solid booking and at 5/2 she is not exactly a giveaway, but she is the one with the clearest, safest profile. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Travellers Girl – 15/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Oisin McSweeney | Trainer: Roger Fell | Form: 43 | Rating: 73 | Topspeed: 49

There is enough about her first two runs to suggest she can nick a place at a decent price, and possibly better if the principals fluff their lines. She has already shown progression from fourth to third, which is exactly what you want to see from a young filly learning on the job, and her mark of 73 gives her a more solid base than many of these outsiders. Draw 8 looks workable, and this stiffish 6f should suit one who appears to finish her races honestly. Available at 15/2, she makes more appeal as an each-way punt than some shorter ones with less room for manoeuvre. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it straightforward: Eleven Eighty Two is the win play because she brings the best form and the strongest rating into a race lacking depth. Travellers Girl is the each-way alternative in a 13-runner field, with enough proven ability to make the frame. Halcon is the obvious danger after a promising debut, while Sovereign Grace is another who could improve past these.

Race Details: 1m | Class 5 | Going: 7.9) (watering) (rail movements (Good, good to firm in places (goingstick) | | flat

This does not look the deepest maiden Ripon will stage all summer and, on what we know, it revolves around the two fillies with established form. Alterity sets the standard on figures after a pair of placed efforts this season and her mark of 78 gives her a clear edge on the bare numbers. Queen’s Hame is the interesting unknown for William Haggas and Tom Marquand, with the stable more than capable of readying one first time, but she is being asked to take on a rival with solid match practice. War And Love has a bit of experience too, though as a four-year-old she now concedes weight and her comeback run was underwhelming. The rest need to find plenty, so this looks fairly straightforward rather than a devilish little puzzle.

Top Selections

1. Alterity – 6/5 with Bet365

Jockey: Jason Hart | Trainer: Charlie Johnston | Form: 5-33 | Rating: 78 | Topspeed: 71

Alterity is the obvious one, but sometimes obvious is the right answer. She has already shown enough in two runs this year to suggest a race like this is well within reach, finishing third on both occasions and posting the best rating in the field. That 78 leaves her clear of the exposed opposition, and her Topspeed of 71 backs up the view that she has run to a useful level for this grade. Johnston’s fillies often improve with racing, and this stiff enough mile at Ripon should suit a runner who has been seeing her races out. At 6/5, she is not hiding, but she is still hard to oppose. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple in a five-runner race: Alterity is the win play and the only bet to make. She has the best form in the book, the best rating, and arrives match-fit. Queen’s Hame is the clear danger on debut for powerful connections, while War And Love could nick a place without looking especially likely to win.

19:09 – Napoleons Casino And Restaurant Leeds Handicap

Race Details: 1m | Class 5 | Going: 7.9) (watering) (rail movements (Good, good to firm in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a competitive little Ripon mile without being a deep one, and the market has understandably latched on to the in-form pair Glorious Kitty and Up The Jazz. Both arrive here off solid recent efforts and neither would be a surprise winner, but this track can punish anything that gets the run of the race wrong and that makes draw, pace and tactical sharpness important. Jesmond Dawn has been knocking on the door in similar company and looks the type to be dangerous if getting a smoother passage than last time, while Precious Spartan is weighted to get involved if building on his reappearance. Urban Road and Volenti have bits of form that make them interesting at bigger prices, but this still feels like a race where the improvers and the well-treated runners should dominate.

Top Selections

1. Up The Jazz – 11/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Warren Fentiman | Trainer: Richard & Peter Fahey | Form: 392361 | Rating: 82 | Topspeed: 73

He makes plenty of appeal. That latest win was the sort of performance that suggested he has found his level again, and the overall profile is that of a horse holding his form well rather than producing a one-off spike. Off 82 he is not obviously thrown in, but he is solid, versatile enough tactically, and this does not look a race packed with lurkers. Fahey’s team know exactly how to place this type around the northern tracks and Warren Fentiman takes off useful weight from a horse already arriving in good nick. At 11/4, he is no giveaway, but he is the percentage call in a race where reliability counts for plenty. Bet type tag: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Jesmond Dawn – 9/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Oisin Orr | Trainer: Grant Tuer | Form: 0-7235 | Rating: 84 | Topspeed: 74

He looks the value each-way angle. The recent form figures do not scream winner, but they do show a horse running consistently well in similar races, and his mark of 84 still gives him a definite chance if things fall right. The concern is the widest draw in 9 around Ripon, yet Oisin Orr is more than capable of getting him organised early and avoiding a wasted trip. He has enough tactical pace to hold a position and his Topspeed figure is right in the mix for this grade. With a few of these likely to be closely matched in the finish, 9/2 is fair enough for a horse who should be bang there if reproducing his recent level. Bet type tag: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Up The Jazz is the straightforward win play because he arrives in form and looks the safest option in a race where not many are open to much improvement. Jesmond Dawn is the each-way punt at 9/2, as his recent efforts read well enough for this level and he should give you a run for the money. Glorious Kitty is the obvious danger if continuing her upward curve.

19:40 – Mark’s Choice, Ripon’s Most-Winning Horse Handicap

Race Details: 5f | Class 4 | Going: 7.9) (watering) (rail movements (Good, good to firm in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a proper Ripon sprint handicap: sharp, competitive and likely decided by who breaks on terms and grabs the favoured position early. Goyard is the obvious one after returning with a solid third and he sets the standard on a mark of 87, but he is not facing mugs. Rock Of England arrives in winning form and still looks well enough treated despite a rise, while Tees Aggregates also comes here off a success and is clearly thriving. Reigning Profit is capable at this level but has become a little frustrating, and veteran Mark’s Choice is respected round here without looking bombproof from stall 9. Strong race for the grade, and not one to treat as a penalty kick.

Top Selections

1. Goyard – 15/8 with Bet365

Jockey: Daniel Tudhope | Trainer: David O’Meara | Form: 1185-3 | Rating: 87 | Topspeed: 72

Goyard makes plenty of appeal as the one they all have to beat. He returned from a break with a respectable third, suggesting he has come back in good order, and that run should have put a proper edge on him for this. O’Meara’s sprinters are often worth following when they start to click and Daniel Tudhope is exactly the sort you want in a track position battle over this bare 5f. Drawn in 3, he should be able to get handy without wasting energy, and a mark of 87 still looks manageable judged on last season’s progress. At 15/8, he’s short enough, but still hard to oppose.

Bet: WIN

2. Rock Of England – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Jason Hart | Trainer: Paul Midgley | Form: 3-9131 | Rating: 87 | Topspeed: 76

Rock Of England looks the each-way value in a race where recent sharp sprint form counts for plenty. Two wins from his last four starts tell the story, and that latest success suggested he remains in rude health rather than scraping home at the end of his tether. Midgley’s yard knows the time of day with these northern sprinters, and Jason Hart is a positive booking on a horse who likes to be ridden with conviction. Off the same rating as Goyard but carrying less weight, he has a fair bit in his favour, and his Topspeed figure of 76 says he belongs right in this argument. Around 11/2, he’s an attractive each-way punt.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Goyard is the win play because he has the profile of a sprinter ready to strike second time back and his draw should help. Rock Of England is the each-way alternative at a more workable price given his current form. Tees Aggregates is the obvious danger after winning last time, while Reigning Profit has enough ability to nick a place if things fall right.

20:15 – Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap

Race Details: 1m 4f | Class 6 | Going: 7.9) (watering) (rail movements (Good, good to firm in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary three-year-old handicap on paper, but it revolves around one obvious improver. Vietnorm arrives on the back of two wins and is the one with momentum in a race where plenty of these have had their chances without quite getting the job done. Keep It Classic is the interesting danger for a top yard, with Tom Marquand booked and a mark of 69 not beyond him if this trip draws a bit more out. Resdev Time has at least been knocking on the door, while Picaro and Riddikulus have bits of form that give them place claims in a modest field. It is not a deep contest, and that should make current wellbeing and stamina at the trip the key factors.

Top Selections

1. Vietnorm – 11/10 with Bet365

Jockey: Barry McHugh | Trainer: Adrian Paul Keatley | Form: 696-11 | Rating: 70 | Topspeed: 54

He is the percentage call. Two wins on the spin tell their own story, and unlike most of these he is clearly going the right way rather than searching for answers. An opening mark of 70 asks a different question, but this is only a Class 6 and there is not much lurking in opposition with the same scope to improve again. Barry McHugh knows him, the yard does well when one gets into a groove, and at 11/10 he is short enough without being cramped in a race lacking depth. If he stays this 1m4f strongly, he should take plenty of stopping. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Resdev Time – 15/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Lewis Chalkley | Trainer: Michael & David Easterby | Form: 5-5563 | Rating: 68 | Topspeed: 63

For an each-way play, Resdev Time makes more appeal than some of the shorter alternatives because he at least arrives after a step back in the right direction. That latest third suggested this trip is beginning to click, and his Topspeed of 63 is joint-best in the field, which gives him a solid platform in a race of this standard. He does not look wildly treated off 68, but nor does he need to improve bundles to hit the frame. At 15/2 with three places on offer, he looks the value each-way punt against a favourite who may still have to prove he is bombproof. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple here: Vietnorm is the win play, as he is the only runner bringing obvious progressive form into a weak Class 6. For a bit of place insurance, Resdev Time is the each-way option at a fairer price and has the speed figures to be competitive. Keep It Classic is the main danger if the Haggas runner finds extra for this test.

20:52 – David Chapman Memorial Handicap

Race Details: 6f | Class 6 | Going: 7.9) (watering) (rail movements (Good, good to firm in places (goingstick) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary 3yo sprint on paper, but not an impossible one to unpick. Long Shot sets the standard on recent form after a string of solid efforts and is understandably prominent in the market, while Tie Fighter has been knocking on the door without quite getting his head in front. Brash is less exposed than most after only three runs and could easily have more to offer now entering handicap company, which gives the race a bit more depth than a typical Class 6. Northern Tempest is another with a low weight and a fair chance if things fall right, but several of these arrive with patchy profiles. It’s not a deep race, though there is enough unexposed form to make it slightly trickier than the betting suggests.

Top Selections

1. Long Shot – 2/1 with Bet365

Jockey: David Allan | Trainer: Tim Easterby | Form: -38242 | Rating: 71 | Topspeed: 53

Long Shot is the obvious one, but that doesn’t make him a bad one. He’s been running to a consistent level, his last three efforts in particular reading well enough for this grade, and he gets in here with just 122lb despite being the top-rated runner in the field. That combination tends to matter in low-level sprints at Ripon, where a straightforward type who can hold a position is often worth trusting. Tim Easterby’s colt doesn’t look thrown in, but he does look solid, and in a race where plenty have questions to answer, the favourite is hard to oppose at 2/1. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Brash – 5/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Oisin Orr | Trainer: David & Nicola Barron | Form: 773 | Rating: 67 | Topspeed: 44

Brash is the one who makes most appeal against the favourite because he’s the least exposed runner near the head of the market. After two educational efforts, he took a step forward when third last time and now goes handicapping off 67, which could underestimate him if that latest run is a true sign of where he’s heading. The Barron yard know the local sprint scene inside out and Oisin Orr is exactly the sort you want in a race like this. Drawn widest in 9 is not ideal, but at 5/1 he looks the value play if there’s another chunk of improvement to come. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple: Long Shot is the win bet because he brings the strongest, most reliable recent handicap form into a weak enough Class 6. For an each-way punt, Brash appeals most as the improver in the field and the one who could easily outrun his opening mark. Tie Fighter is the obvious danger if he gets a cleaner run at it.
