Andrew Mount has a quartet of tips for day 2 of Royal Ascot on Wednesday 17 June. He kicks off with a selection at 66/1 in the Queen Mary Stakes at 2.30pm, whilst he has some other big-priced picks throughout the day, so check out his best bets below…
Royal Ascot Racing Tips (Wednesday 17 June 2026)
It’s a 2.30pm start for Royal Ascot, with seven races taking place throughout the afternoon. Read Andrew’s best bets for Wednesday here.
2.30 Royal Ascot – Pershaada (1pt e/w – 66/1 Ladbrokes, four places, 50/1 Betfred, five places)
Pershaada (stall 23 of 28) was beaten into third place when 10-11 favourite on her debut at Wolverhampton in early April, but I gave her a big upgrade for that performance as she raced on the ‘dead’ inside rail throughout. I napped Richard Hannon’s Persian Force filly when she ran at Southwell next time, but the 6-5 favourite did too much too soon and hung to her left, losing out to Karl Burke’s newcomer Love A Giggle, who followed up when 9-1 for a York Listed race. She won well at Goodwood on her third career start/turf debut and while it’s very early days for her sire, they do seem to be getting better with experience. That Goodwood win was backed up by the clock – she has the second-best last time out speed figure according to Proform’s ratings – and a high draw is often advantageous in the Queen Mary.
3.40 Royal Ascot – Godspeed (1pt e/w – 11/1 bet365, Sky Bet, Paddy Power, all paying four places)
Godspeed’s patient running style is usually unhelpful in steadily-run races in France where she has often been left with a mountain to climb before keeping on late. The Lerner-trained four-year-old will be suited by the tempo of the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes and she ran a nice prep when going down by a neck in a Longchamp Listed race in late April. This race usually goes to a hold-up performer and her record below Group 1 level stands at 13312 (2-5).
5.00 Royal Ascot – Ebt’s Guard (0.5pt e/w – 33/1 generally) & Urban Lion (0.5pt e/w – 40/1 generally)
Ebt’s Guard has a fine record over the 1m trip at Ascot (both round and straight courses), recording form figures of 317132 (2-6), with the sole unplaced in last season’s Royal Hunt Cup when doing second best of the group of seven runners who raced down the centre of the track in a race dominated by those drawn very high or very low (first five drawn 32, 2, 1, 30 and 3). The Muir and Grassick-trained five-year-old was only a nose behind Fox Legacy, best of those who raced down the middle, and that one has since won twice and seen his mark rise from 96 to a high of 116. He has an extreme draw this time around (stall 32) and should run his usual solid race.
Last year’s 25-1 fifth Urban Lion probably found the race coming too soon – just four days after his Sandown win – and Jack Channon’s five-year-old is taken to bounce back from a poor effort in the Spring Cup at Newbury on April 18th where last of the 24 runners. The son of Zoustar landed the Lincoln at Doncaster on his reappearance and has form figures when rested for at least 50 days since his latest start of 11131 (4-5), with the defeat by just half a length behind Ebt’s Guard on the round course here in last season’s Shergar Cup Mile. Stall 20 might not be ideal but there’s compensation in the price.
Witch Hunter also made the shortlist (stall 3) and could out-run his odds if stall 3 is no disadvantage.
