Royal Ascot Day 3 Tips - GG Lucky 15 Picks For Thursday 18th June

It’s Gold Cup day at Royal Ascot on day 3 of the Flat racing extravaganza. Seven races take place during another glorious day’s racing at the iconic Berkshire racecourse on Thursday 18th June.

Steve Chambers picks out his best Royal Ascot Day 3 tips here, which can be added to a Lucky 15 for the day.

3.05 Royal Ascot – King George V Stakes – Into The Light (1pt win – 11/2)

Unraced as a two-year-old, Into The Light has progressed nicely this season for Charlie Appleby. The Godolphin raider will only be making his fourth start in the King George V Stakes at 3.05pm, but could prove to be a real cut above his rivals. The son of Dubawi was last seen finishing a close runner-up to Lost Boys at Sandown Park. That contender has since gone on and won the London Gold Cup at Newbury, which is often a top quality handicap. Only rated 88, Appleby’s charge could be significantly higher than that mark by the end of the campaign and he can use a win in this event as a springboard to Group assignments in the second half of the season.

4.15 Royal Ascot – Gold Cup – Scandinavia (1pt win – 13/8)

Scandinavia edged out Rahiebb in a thrilling finish to the St Leger at Doncaster at the end of last season, and the pair are set for another epic battle in the Gold Cup at 4.15pm. The pair will have to get the better of eight-year-old reigning Gold Cup champion Trawlerman, but the pair can down the Godolphin candidate. Aidan O’Brien has a fine record in this race, with nine victories. He can duly notch up number 10 with Scandinavia, who has returned to the track in top form with two wins in Ireland. An out-and-out stayer, O’Brien’s charge is likely to stay off the pace until they turn for home and then kick clear and maintain his advantage over Roger Varian’s Rahiebb, who will be a big danger.

16:15 Gold Cup (Group 1)

5.35 Royal Ascot – Hampton Court Stakes – Maho Bay (1pt win – 9/1)

Having kicked off his career with two wins, Maho Bay was sent off favourite for the Lingfield Derby Trial. However, Charlie Appleby’s charge ran no sort of a race that day and is now on the comeback mission in the Hampton Court Stakes at 5.35pm. The yard were in poor form during that period when he underperformed in that Lingfield contest, so you can put a line through it. He will need to produce a career best to land this prize, but the Dubawi colt showed when recording a fine time on debut that he has the potential to be very smart. Endorsement, Italy and Morshdi are notable adversaries, but Maho Bay can bounce back to form with aplomb.

17:35 Hampton Court Stakes (Group 3)

6.10 Royal Ascot – Buckingham Palace Stakes – Blue Brother (1pt win – 10/1)

Not seen on the track for a year, Blue Brother will be making his first start for Hamad Al Jehani in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at 6.10pm. Down the field in the Royal Hunt Cup at the Royal meeting last season, the five-year-old will look to bounce back to form in this hugely competitive 7f contest. He’s been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper, so lines up here off 98. Drawn high, he has to be considered a huge contender, if he can find the form that saw him finish second in a listed race in France. Well fancied for this race, he’s one that could be potentially better than handicap company, but will need everything to fall right.

18:10 Buckingham Palace Stakes (Handicap)
