Steve Chambers' Royal Ascot Friday Tips - Best bets for day 4 of Royal meeting

It’s day four of Royal Ascot on Friday 19th June, as seven more spectacular races take place at the Berkshire racecourse. Group 1 action lights up the track with the Commonwealth Cup and Coronation Stakes attracting quality fields, whilst there’s some competitive juvenile and handicap events as well.

Steve Chambers has delved through the form guides and picks out his best Royal Ascot Friday tips here…

3.40 Royal Ascot – Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes – Regal Ulixes (1pt each way – 16/1)

Andrew Balding has already been on the winners’ podium this week at Royal Ascot. Now, the British trainer can strike gold once again and land the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at 3.40pm. He will saddle Regal Ulixes, who is available at double-figured prices, at the time of writing, and is one that could outrun his lofty odds. Deemed good enough to contest the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at last year’s Royal meeting, he wasn’t disgraced when finishing seventh. Seventh in a hot York handicap contest last time out, he’s been dropped 1lb, so lines up off 98 here. The step up in trip should be a notable positive and having shown his best form on turf then could be a lively outsider.

15:40 Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) (GBBPlus Race)

5.00 Royal Ascot – Sandringham Stakes – Seet (1pt win – 5/1)

Hugely impressive when storming to a novice stakes win at Doncaster two weeks ago, John & Thady Gosden’s Seet will now look to claim Sandringham Stakes glory at 5.00pm. The half-sister to Kalpana has won two of her three starts, but has shaped like she could be very smart. Ryan Moore will take the ride for this big-runner contest, as she makes her handicap debut. Plenty of rivals here will be open to improvement, but she could be much better than her mark of 96, and she can simply rout her rivals in this 1m event.

17:00 Sandringham Stakes (Handicap) (Fillies)

5.35 Royal Ascot – King Edward VII Stakes – Causeway (1pt win – 2/1)

Water To Wine has been imperious on his two racecourse starts, with wins at Newbury and Kempton. Incidentally, he beat Alderman on debut, who ran a cracker in the Derby at Epsom. However, John & Thady Gosden’s charge will have a lively Aidan O’Brien-trained runner in the shape of Causeway looking to down him here. The Ballydoyle charge has four wins from five starts on his CV, and was last seen getting his head in front in a Group 3 at the Curragh, He will need more improvement to down the classy Water To Wine, but his experience could certainly help here and the Irish raider is the way to go.

17:35 King Edward VII Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings)

6.10 Royal Ascot – Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap – Comical Point (1pt each way – 25/1)

A whopping field of 28 will line up for the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap, which will conclude day four of Royal Ascot at 6.10pm. The 5f event will see a hugely competitive betting heat take place, but one that could run well at big odds if Comical Point for Andrew Balding and William Buick. Winless since his debut as a juvenile, the Blue Point colt has been running some big races, without getting his head in front. Upped 2lbs for a second at Windsor last time out, he’s not been out the first three in his last four outings. Having competed in Group races as a two-year-old, he’s one that has the potential to improve, and the hugely consistent performer can at least grab a place again.

18:10 Palace Of Holyroodhouse (Handicap)
