Sandown Racing Tips (Friday 24 April 2026)
It’s the Flat Season Opener at Sandown, with some quality Group races taking place. However, Andrew heads to the Esher Cup at 1.50pm for his best bet on the card.
1.50 Sandown – Laureate Crown (1pt win – 13/2 generally)
Laureate Crown returned from a gelding operation and a 193-day absence to land a Class 4 handicap at Wolverhampton on March 23rd and is taken to follow up in the Esher Cup. Hugo Palmer’s three-year-old didn’t win again after his debut success at two but was highly tried on occasions and handicaps looks to be his level. He earned a sectional upgrade for his Dunstall Park success, and his trainer has a great record with his last time out winning break returners (150+ days) when they bid to follow up, scoring with 18 of the 63 qualifiers for a profit of £29.06 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who were upped in class after their win had a 14 from 42 record (+£39.32) against an expected wins score of 6.39 (A/E 2.19).
Perth Racing Tips (Friday 24 April 2026)
Perth’s terrific three-day festival comes to a close today. Andrew heads to the Highland National for his best bet at 2.05pm.
2.05 Perth – Fever Dream (1pt win – 4/1 bet365, William Hill, 7/2 generally)
Fever Dream won well from off the pace at Warwick last time, a track that strongly favours early pace, and is taken to follow up in the 3m6f Highland National. Christian Williams’ eight-year-old has a good record in spring/early summer, recording form figures in this period of 36551213P1321 (4-13), improving to 21213P1321 (4-10) in handicap company for a profit of £5.85 to a £1 level stake at SP. The non-completion came over an inadequate 2m5f trip at Newton Abbot last summer where he was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat after stopping quickly. He drops in class today and his two previous runs here – both in handicap hurdles – produced a win and a runner-up effort.
Doncaster Racing Tips (Friday 24 April 2026)
Seven races on the Flat take place at Doncaster on Friday, with an eye-catching selection lining up for Andrew Mount at 4.35pm.
4.35 Doncaster – Masaban (1pt win – 11/2 bet365, William Hill, 5/1 generally)
Masaban showed promise for Dermot Weld in Ireland last summer, running very green when fifth of eight in a 7f Galway maiden before racing keenly and not lasting home over 1m at Dundalk. The son of Siyouni has joined in-form Ed Bethell and his new trainer is quick to cut him back to 6f. Bethell does well at the first time of asking with horses he take over from other yards, especially on turf, with 12 winners from 26 bets (46.2% strike-rate) for a profit of £24.70 to a £1 level stake at SP. His last two qualifiers on this angle – Noche Classica and Murashah – both provided winners for this column.
